West Ham United Friday Transfer Roundup

It’s been manic with transfer news and rumours at the Hammers this week and here’s a quick update in case you got lost in the sea of transfer talk.

West Ham have waved goodbye to the prospect of bringing Stuart Downing to the Boleyn Ground. Even Sam Allardyce said that he probably couldn’t afford the Liverpool winger anyway. Apparently Downing is happy to stay at Anfield and fight for a spot in the first eleven next season.

West Ham were also keen on West Bromich Albion’s Graham Dorrans but seem to have parked that idea, looking at other options for the sprucing up of the midfield. Norwich and Cardiff City were also keen on the player but as I have said, the idea was parked by Allardyce and the lead seems to have cooled off.

Then we have news about Serbian Zdravko Kuzmanovic who plays for Inter Milan. The attacking midfielder was one of Sam Allardyce’s favourites for a switch to the Boleyn Ground this summer.

However, this move seems to have been scuppered by La Liga outfit Malaga, who are keen on him too. The Hammers are rumoured to be offering in the region of £5m to bring the Serbian to the east end but it may not be enough.

Malaga has plenty of cash to splash after the sale of Spanish Under-21 star Isco to La Liga giants Real Madrid and would use the Serbian to plug the gap that is left.

Speaking after Saturday’s 2-0 friendly win at Bournemouth, Allardyce said:

“For the first time in eight years, I have got a good squad together right at the start of pre-season.

“We would like to add to that of course, although it will only be one or two max. Position wise, we need an attacking player first and then we will see where we go.

“At this moment, it depends on the player who is available. It needs to be a quality player who brings a lot to the team for us to go after him.”

Now we come to the news about Columbian hit man Duvan Zapata.

It appears that the Hammers have pulled out of a deal to sign Estudiantes striker.

West Ham manager Sam Allardyce hoped to boost his attack with the £8million-rated Colombian but was forced to drop his interest in the player after it became clear he would not be granted a work permit.

That’s a shame as Zapata would have made a great partner up front with the likes of Andy Carroll et al.

Never to lose faith or be outdone, Allardyce has now turned his attention to La Liga in Spain. His newest interest comes in the form of Sporting Gijon’s midfielder Oscar Trejo.

West Ham United hope to table a £1.8m bid for the 25 year old Argentine and although French outfit Toulouse and Greek giants Olympiakos are also said to be looking at him.

However, despite interest from the two other clubs mentioned, West Ham are keen to finalise a deal with Sporting Gijon by the end of the week and add to their latest signings of Andy Carroll, Razvan Rat and ex Real Betis keeper, Adrian.

About Stevo

Stevo can remember going to games with his Dad and seeing the likes of Clyde Best of all people. He also has a few mates who have “done” complete seasons too – and that was when the Irons were in division one. That’s every home and away game – unbelievable! Stevo plans to do this himself next season!

Trejo looks a tough, competitive player with no mean amount of skill. Unsure how Sam Allardyce sees him fitting in – he looks very similar to Joe Cole. Then again I’m not sure where Sam Allardyce sees Joe Cole fitting in ;).

Interesting that Wikipedia now list him as a Toulouse player.
