West Ham 3-0 Bolton | Hammers too good for struggling Trotters

Arthur Masuaku scored a fantastic goal as West Ham eased past Bolton Wanderers 3-0 to seal their spot in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup. 35,806 spectators were in attendance at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park for this fixture.

The Trotters, winless and bottom of the table in the Championship, were no match for the Hammers, with new summer signing Marko Arnautovic starring for the home side. Bilic gave several of his fringe players and youngsters a start, with Sam Byram and Sead Haksabanovic both in the XI.

Arnautovic had two assists to his name, with his free kick leading to Angelo Ogbonna’s headed opener. He also set up Diafra Sakho for the club’s second. The Austrian and Andrew Ayew could’ve both also been on the scoresheet, but their finishing wasn’t quite up to scratch. [Read more…]

Talking Points- Carroll’s 100th PL appearance for West Ham ends in tame draw at the Hawthorns

This was as drab as it got, and perhaps a darning indictment on the quality of the game was the fact that it was last on Match of the Day, even below Spurs vs Swansea, which was a borefest in itself!

The corresponding fixture last season produced six goals, but chances were few and far between in this game that celebrated two important milestones- Gareth Barry’s 632nd appearance (equalling Ryan Giggs’ record for most league appearances), and Andy Carroll’s 100th league appearance for West Ham, five years after joining the club [Read more…]

The club’s first home league game of the season at the London Stadium was a pivotal one for both fans and coach Slaven Bilic. Just hours before the game he had seen Crystal Palace sack Frank de Boer, thus landing the Dutchman the unwanted record of having the shortest reign as Premier League manager, and had expressed fears that he could be the next one to go- with Palace having been ahead of the Hammers in the table when De Boer was shown the door. Manchester United 4-0 West Ham- Analysis, Match Report and Thoughts

This was always going to be a tough start to the new Premier League season. The second season in Jose Mourinho’s tenure in his managerial stints so far has always been good for the Portuguese gaffer, and with the Red Devils’ attack spearheaded by a striker who loves to score against West Ham for fun, it perhaps came as no surprise that the visitors ended on the wrong side of a 4-0 scoreline.

West Ham sorely missed the creativity of Manuel Lanzini in attack and the pace of Michail Antonio. United were too good for them, especially in the centre of the park, where the trio of Paul Pogba, Juan Mata and new signing Nemanja Matic outclassed Mark Noble, Pedro Obiang and Edimilson Fernandes.

United dominated the early stages of the game and Mata had two good chances to put them ahead, but the Spaniard failed to make the most of both chances. West Ham held out for half an hour, but the goal came, and it was new signing Matic who was at the heart of it. The Serbian dispossessed Pedro Obiang in midfield and United launched a blistering counter attack in midfield through the speedy Marcus Rashford. Not content with having initiated the move, Matic also ran a clever support line that kept Winston Reid in suspense, and it was enough to give Romelu Lukaku space to score on his OT debut. Hammers celebrate Reid’s 200th appearance with shutout against Everton

West Ham produced a solid defensive performance to keep a clean sheet and pick up a point against European hopefuls Everton at the London Stadium today afternoon.

Everton’s record against West Ham was a historically good one- they’ve had more wins in the last ten years against the Hammers than against any other opposition and Toffees striker Romelu Lukaku had scored in all of his nine previous appearances against WHUFC.

This match, and West Ham’s resoluteness in defence could be summed up by Ronald Koeman’s post match interview statement stating that he would have subbed off ten players at half time if he was allowed to. That was testament to how well West Ham’s back three, featuring Reid, Collins and Jose Fonte, performed as a unit (the first time since the Palace game that Bilic opted for a back three). Romelu Lukaku was kept very, very quiet and in a rather stunning stat- Everton had 0 (Yes ZERO) shots on target in the WHOLE game.
