West Ham stars Masuaku, Snodgrass not called up for November internationals

West Ham’s Arthur Masuaku and Robert Snodgrass will not be seen in action during the upcoming November internationals after they were left out of their respective national squads.

Left back Masuaku, who made his debut for DR Congo last month against Zimbabwe, has not been named in the Leopards’ 24 member squad to play neighbours Congo. Apart from Masuaku, other high profile omissions from the DRC squad that played Zimbabwe include Benik Afobe and Jacques Maghoma. There is however a recall for Celtic’s Youssuf Mulumbu, who last featured for his country at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations. [Read more…]

Hammers watch- How did West Ham’s players on international duty fare?

Several West Ham players were called up to their respective international sides during the fortnightly break following the Hammers’ loss to Brighton at the Amex.

Here, we take a look at how the players performed during the break (updated for games played till October 16, 2018)

Marko Arnautovic: Manuel Pellegrini would’ve probably preferred his talismanic striker to have had a much needed break to get over his niggles. But he played the full 90 for Austria on Friday night against Northern Ireland, and also scored the winner for Franco Foda’s side in Vienna.

Arnautovic did not play in Austria’s loss to Denmark on the 16th of October as part of a deal between the club and the Austrian FA to manage his knee injury. [Read more…]

Post Match Report & Analysis West Ham vs Chelsea- Moyes gets first win as WHUFC manager

On paper, this fixture between the East half of London and the West half was a mismatch- Chelsea had taken 19 points from their last seven games, while West Ham, with two different managers in charge, had mustered just TWO.

However the Hammers had put in a resolute defensive performance against Man City at the Etihad and many fans reckoned they could pick up points against Chelsea if they produced an encore. However West Ham in recent times have always struggled to string two good performances together, which was the primary reason for the fans’ pessimism.

David Moyes made a few changes, with Winston Reid returning in place of youngster Declan Rice to take his spot in a three man defence along with Angelo Ogbonna and Aaron Cresswell. [Read more…]

Manchester United 4-0 West Ham- Analysis, Match Report and Thoughts

This was always going to be a tough start to the new Premier League season. The second season in Jose Mourinho’s tenure in his managerial stints so far has always been good for the Portuguese gaffer, and with the Red Devils’ attack spearheaded by a striker who loves to score against West Ham for fun, it perhaps came as no surprise that the visitors ended on the wrong side of a 4-0 scoreline.

West Ham sorely missed the creativity of Manuel Lanzini in attack and the pace of Michail Antonio. United were too good for them, especially in the centre of the park, where the trio of Paul Pogba, Juan Mata and new signing Nemanja Matic outclassed Mark Noble, Pedro Obiang and Edimilson Fernandes.

United dominated the early stages of the game and Mata had two good chances to put them ahead, but the Spaniard failed to make the most of both chances. West Ham held out for half an hour, but the goal came, and it was new signing Matic who was at the heart of it. The Serbian dispossessed Pedro Obiang in midfield and United launched a blistering counter attack in midfield through the speedy Marcus Rashford. Not content with having initiated the move, Matic also ran a clever support line that kept Winston Reid in suspense, and it was enough to give Romelu Lukaku space to score on his OT debut.
