Talking Points and Media Player Ratings- West Ham 4-3 Huddersfield

West Ham avoided a major embarrassment at home against strugglers Huddersfield Town as Javier Hernandez’s brace helped them snatch a last gasp 4-3 win. Up against a Town side that hadn’t scored away from home since Boxing Day, the Hammers were 3-1 down midway through the second half before a late fightback saw them down Jan Siewert’s men. Here are our talking points from the game, as well as the player ratings from the media.

Fabian Balbuena needs to start soon: The Balbuena-Issa Diop partnership was one of the highlights of the season for the Hammers before the Paraguayan got injured. He’s now fit, but Pellegrini, perhaps out of loyalty to Angelo Ogbonna, has chosen to continue with the Italian’s partnership with young Frenchman Diop in the heart of defence.

There have been some good moments with the Ogbonna-Diop partnership, but the consistency that Pellegrini would like is missing. Together, the solidity you’d expect from a side wanting to challenge for Europe isn’t quite there- too many defensive lapses for the fans’ liking. [Read more…]

Huddersfield v West Ham Predictions- How do pundits reckon the Hammers will fare this weekend?

West Ham will be aiming to win back to back Premier League matches for the first time in nearly two years when they travel to the Kirklees Stadium this weekend to take on David Wagner’s Huddersfield. Several stats are on the side of the visitors- the Terriers have never won in the Premier League under the referee for this game, Chris Kavanagh and they have a poor league record in November.

On paper, this looks like an easy win for the Hammers. Town hadn’t even scored at home until Fosu Mensah’s own goal on Monday night broke that long drought- the victory over Fulham was also their first league win of the season.

Here are the pundit predictions for this HTAFC-West Ham clash on Saturday afternoon [Read more…]

Why West Ham should win on Saturday- Huddersfield’s November record under David Wagner

Earlier this week, we pointed out that the referee appointed for this weekend’s Huddersfield v West Ham clash– Chris Kavanagh, is one under whom the Terriers are yet to win a single Premier League game.

Here is another stat that should give West Ham fans plenty of hope going into Saturday’s fixture at the Kirklees Stadium- HTAFC’s poor league record in the month of November under manager David Wagner. The Terriers appear to avoid defeat in the first game of the month, but it seems to go pear shaped afterwards. Take a look below! [Read more…]

Referee announced for Huddersfield-West Ham game | Town winless in Premier League under him!

The referee for West Ham’s crucial Round 12 league clash this weekend away at Huddersfield Town has been officially announced. Chris Kavanagh will be the man in charge of this game, assisted by Simon Bennett and Marc Perry, with Michael Oliver to serve as the fourth official.

While Town had a good record in the Championship under Kavanagh, they are yet to win a top flight game refereed by him. The news will be music to the ears of Manuel Pellegrini, whose side are aiming to register back to back league wins for the first time since January 2017. [Read more…]

Comparison Stats- Marko Arnautovic under Moyes vs Arnautovic under Bilic

Marko Arnautovic has been a changed man since David Moyes replaced Slaven Bilic at the London Stadium, and the Austrian continued his fine form with a goal and assists for Manuel Lanzini in West Ham’s 4-1 win over Huddersfield. Arnautovic’s performance in that game prompted Football.London to give him a 10/10 rating– the first one they’ve given to any West Ham player in the current campaign.

Under Slaven Bilic, Arnautovic looked like an early candidate for “Flop signing of the summer”, and this infographic shows the dramatic change in the performances of him and Manuel Lanzini since Moyes arrived. He even earned a nomination for the December player of the month (the award eventually went to Harry Kane)

While we’ve known that the duo have improved, to see it in terms of numbers is quite an eye-opener, literally speaking.

Can a change of manager influence things that much? Looking at these stats, definitely yes! [Read more…]

Media Player Ratings- Huddersfield v West Ham (2018)

West Ham secured three crucial points against Huddersfield away on Saturday to continue their resurgence under David Moyes. Not surprisingly much of the praise was reserved for the attacking duo of Manuel Lanzini and Marko Arnautovic, who scored three of the Hammers’ four goals between them.

Austrian forward Arnautovic even bagged the first 10/10 rating by a West Ham player this season [Read more…]

Huddersfield v West Ham 2018 Report- Arnautovic Lanzini show gives Moyes 200th Premier League win

Manuel Lanzini’s brace, his first on the road in the Premier League for fourteen months and a beautiful effort from Austrian forward Marko Arnautovic were enough for West Ham to beat Huddersfield 4-1 at the John Smith’s Stadium and give coach David Moyes his 200th Premier League win as manager- only Sir Alex Ferguson, Arsene Wenger and Harry Redknapp have more wins than the Scotsman.

West Ham had lost only one of their last six Premier League games going into this clash- Huddersfield, by comparison, had won ONLY once in their last six, which mean that this would be an intriguing fixture despite the Hammers’ indifferent away form.

For West Ham, James Collins took the place of Winston Reid in defence and Arnautovic returned to the XI after recovering from a hamstring problem. David Wagner chose to put new Huddersfield signing Alex Pritchard on the bench. [Read more…]

West Ham 2-0 Huddersfield- Thoughts and reports

The club’s first home league game of the season at the London Stadium was a pivotal one for both fans and coach Slaven Bilic. Just hours before the game he had seen Crystal Palace sack Frank de Boer, thus landing the Dutchman the unwanted record of having the shortest reign as Premier League manager, and had expressed fears that he could be the next one to go- with Palace having been ahead of the Hammers in the table when De Boer was shown the door. Winston Reid withdraws from All Whites squad

West Ham defender Winston Reid has withdrawn from the New Zealand squad following his calf injury prior to the club’s 3-2 loss to Southampton. All Whites skipper Reid was stretchered off after picking up the injury in the warm-up at St.Mary’s. He was originally named in West Ham’s starting eleven but had to be replaced by Jose Fonte.

Reid will therefore miss both of New Zealand’s World Cup qualifiers against the Solomon Islands. Slaven Bilic has also said that he will play no part in the upcoming fixture against Newcastle. [Read more…]
