Five Talking Points from Burnley v West Ham- Hammers slump to disappointing defeat

Goals from Chris Wood and teenager Dwight McNeil saw West Ham slump to defeat to struggling Burnley at Turf Moor. It was a poor end to the year for the Hammers, who looked flat and were defensively all over the place.

Manuel Pellegrini made two changes to the side that had beaten Southampton, with Marko Arnautovic coming upfront and Mark Noble returning in midfield. For Burnley, inspirational skipper Tom Heaton returned to start a Premier League game for the Clarets for the first time since September 2017, with former Hammer Joe Hart on the bench for Sean Dyche’s side. Burnley v West Ham predictions- How do the pundits reckon the Hammers will fare against Sean Dyche’s men?

West Ham will look to finish December on a winning note when they travel to Turf Moor to take on Sean Dyche’s Burnley on Sunday afternoon. The Hammers have already had their best ever month in Premier League history, picking up an unprecedented fifteen points in December. Another three points against the Clarets will see them create another club record and potentially a Manager of the Month nomination for Manuel Pellegrini.

With Saturday’s results seeing Everton and Leicester both being upset and Watford drawing, West Ham will jump to 7th in the table if they win against Burnley. That’s a pretty big incentive, and would cap an almost perfect end to the year for Pellegrini after the club’s horror start to the season (they lost their first four league games) [Read more…]

West Ham vs Burnley Recap- Key moments, opportunities & chances- Minute by Minute

Here is a minute by minute summary of all the key moments, opportunities, chances and (of course!) goals from West Ham’s 4-2 win over Burnley on November 3, 2018 (Saturday).

Both teams were neck and neck in the points table going into this Round 11 clash, with the same 2-2-6 record to show for their efforts after the first ten games.

West Ham started with a 4-1-4-1 and welcomed Marko Arnautovic back from illness. Aaron Cresswell got the nod ahead of Arthur Masuaku at left back- both apparently had issues ahead of the game, but Pellegrini said he’d go with the fitter player, and chose the former. Right back Pablo Zabaleta was named captain for the day in the absence of the suspended Mark Noble. [Read more…]

West Ham’s Anderson named in BBC Team of the Week for GW 11, Rice praised by Redknapp

West Ham’s Felipe Anderson has been named in BBC pundit Garth Crooks’ Premier League Team of the Week for Round 11. The Brazilian scored a brace in the second half on Saturday against Burnley to help his side gain three vital points at the London Stadium.

Both of Anderson’s goals came after the interval- West Ham, prior to the Burnley fixture, had only scored two second half goals across ALL ten of their previous Premier League games this season.

The Brazilian could’ve even had a third but was denied by the woodwork. Not surprisingly, he was also named as the Hammers’ best player on the afternoon across various newspapers.

This is what Crooks had to say about Anderson’s performance against the Clarets.

The Brazilian has looked impressive on the ball this season, however, against Burnley he looked just as impressive in front of goal.

Anderson was the only West Ham player in Crooks’ Team of the Week. The Irons had three representatives the previous week- goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski and defenders Pablo Zabaleta and Fabian Balbuena. [Read more…]
