Referee announced for Huddersfield-West Ham game | Town winless in Premier League under him!

The referee for West Ham’s crucial Round 12 league clash this weekend away at Huddersfield Town has been officially announced. Chris Kavanagh will be the man in charge of this game, assisted by Simon Bennett and Marc Perry, with Michael Oliver to serve as the fourth official.

While Town had a good record in the Championship under Kavanagh, they are yet to win a top flight game refereed by him. The news will be music to the ears of Manuel Pellegrini, whose side are aiming to register back to back league wins for the first time since January 2017.

Huddersfield Town’s Premier League record with Chris Kavanagh as referee

Burnley 0-0 Huddersfield Town (23 September, 2017)
Everton 2-0 Huddersfield Town (2 December, 2017)
Huddersfield 0-3 Chelsea (11 August, 2018)
Burnley 1-1 Huddersfield Town (6 October, 2018)

As seen above, Huddersfield have already been in action in two league games in the current 18/19 season under Kavanagh- the opening week clash at home against Sarri’s Chelsea and the GW8 draw away at Turf Moor against Sean Dyche’s Burnley.

Kavanagh was the ref for West Ham’s painful Week 4 loss at home against Wolves (remember that Adama Traore goal in stoppage time and Cresswell’s “attempt” to stop him?). He was however also the man with the whistle when West Ham triumphed 2-0 away at Leicester in the penultimate round of the 2017/18 season.

Of the eight league games (Premier League + Championship) that Kavanagh has refereed this season, the home side has won only twice, and those two were Liverpool and Arsenal.

Huddersfield grabbed their first league win of the season on Monday night, edging fellow strugglers Fulham 1-0 at the Kirklees Stadium. That Fosu-Mensah own goal was the FIRST one to be scored at home in the PL by David Wagner’s side this season in six attempts. The Terriers are currently third from bottom in the league standings with six points from 11 games while West Ham are in 13th place, with eleven points to show for their efforts from the same number of fixtures.

Huddersfield v West Ham is on Saturday (November 10, 2018)
