West Ham v Spurs- Crunch game for Slav?

After a dire performance at home against Brighton, West Ham will be hoping to bounce back when they make the short trip to Wembley to take on in-form Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening.

The Hammers were abject against the Seagulls despite playing at home with potentially their strongest XI against a promoted team that had not won away on the road this season. The result lead to more calls among supporters and pundits alike for Slaven Bilic’s head but the Croatian gaffer has apparently been given this midweek clash against Spurs and the weekend league one against Crystal Palace to turn things around. Video- Diafra Sakho says he still wants to leave West Ham

In an interview with journalist Claude Atcheba, West Ham striker Diafra Sakho has said that he still wants to leave the club.

Sakho was on the verge of a move to Rennes earlier in the summer, but it broke down, with the Hammers apparently not willing to let the Senegalese international down because they hadn’t signed an adequate replacement (so reckons Sakho in the interview)

The striker also mentioned that Slaven Bilic had no influence in bringing him back [Read more…]

Premier League Distance Covered 2017-18 | West Ham lowest after 9 rounds

Despite a poor performance at home against Brighton on Friday night, West Ham thankfully stayed out of the bottom three after the conclusion of Week 9 in the Premier League. Leicester City came out of the drop zone, but Ronald Koeman’s Everton dropped into it after Arsenal claimed their first away win at Goodison Park, running out 5-2 winners over the Toffees. Media Player Ratings- How did West Ham’s players fare against Brighton (H) 2017

Brighton picked up their first away win of the new league season and their first on the road in the top flight since 1983 as they beat West Ham 3-0 last night in front of a 56,977 strong crowd at the London Stadium.

Here is how West Ham’s players were rated by the media. Sam Inkersole opted to give out one word ratings for each player instead of a number this time around.

Not surprisingly, the player who came in for the most flak was Marko Arnautovic, with the £25m signing expected to give the ageing Bruno a torrid time, but the Austrian international ended up having a very ordinary game, and was hooked before the third goal for Edimilson Fernandes. [Read more…]

Post Match Thoughts- Murray brace sinks West Ham as Brighton boss Chris Hughton gets win in 100th game

On paper, this was a perfectly winnable game for West Ham. They were at home against a newly promoted side in Brighton, who had not won away in four attempts this season, and hadn’t won away in the top flight since 1983. The Seagulls had also scored just once in four league games on the road going into this clash, and the scorer of that goal, Solly March, was benched by Brighton manager Chris Hughton in favour of club record signing Jose Izquierdo. Brighton’s last visit to West Ham, a good five years ago, saw the visitors on the receiving end of a 6-0 scoreline.

West Ham had also never lost a Premier League game at home on a Friday, having beaten Coventry and Spurs in their two previous Friday clashes.

However by the end of the evening, that record had been broken, and Brighton had taken their away goals tally from 1 to 4, courtesy of a brace from veteran striker Glenn Murray, whose last visit to West Ham, then in Crystal Palace colours, also saw him score twice. [Read more…]
