Ex Hammer Watch- Diafra Sakho scores two goals v Caen for Rennes

Former West Ham striker Diafra Sakho seems to have settled quite well back in France and scored his first league goals (to add to his Coupe de la Ligue effort) for Stade Rennais against Caen over the weekend. The game was quite an eventful one, featuring a brace from Sakho, two missed penalties from Caen, a late equaliser from the home side and Swiss officials in the middle and running the sidelines for this fixture, as part of a swap deal between the Swiss and the French Football Federations. Ex Player Watch- Diafra Sakho goal on debut v PSG for Rennes (Video)

Former West Ham striker Diafra Sakho, who had moved to Rennes just days before, made his debut for Les Rouges and Noirs earlier this evening in their French Cup clash against Paris Saint-Germain.

Rennes went 3-0 down before Sakho claimed their first goal of the game in the 85th minute, sparking hopes of a comeback against ten man PSG, who had Kylian Mbappe red carded. Although SRFC pulled one more goal back, PSG hung on for a 3-2 win.

Diafra Sakho leaves West Ham to join Rennes

Wantaway striker Diafra Sakho has finally left West Ham, with French Ligue 1 outfit Stade Rennais snapping up the Senegalese international for a reported fee of £8m. Sakho has made no secret of his desire to leave the Hammers, and was on the verge of a summer switch to Rennes that broke down at the last moment because the Irons had not signed a replacement. Given that Marko Arnautovic, Andy Carroll, Manuel Lanzini and Andre Ayew are on the treatment table currently, West Ham fans should reasonably expect the club to sign another striker- potentially thought to be Russian Fydor Smolov, before the winter transfer window closes. Chancel Mbemba Sakho Swap Deal?- Hammers to exchange striker for defender?

If rumours are to be believed, Newcastle are prepared to let Chancel Mbemba go to West Ham in exchange for Diafra Sakho. Hammers boss David Moyes has played three in defence (mostly Winston Reid, Angelo Ogbonna and Aaron Cresswell) since replacing Slaven Bilic, and feels another defender would strengthen his squad, with veteran James Collins and youngster Declan Rice the only other options available.

The versatile Mbemba, who can play in various positions across defence, also has age on his side- he’s only 23. While Newcastle rate him as one of their better players, the Magpies do need a striker and Diafra Sakho is said to desperately want a move away from the London Stadium. Sakho has been linked with Palace, but it now seems that St.James Park might also be a potential destination for the Senegalese international [Read more…]

Diafra Sakho | Crystal Palace in talks to sign West Ham striker

Crystal Palace are in talks with West Ham over a move for unsettled striker Diafra Sakho. The Senegalese international has made no secret of the fact that he wants out of the London Stadium and Palace, who are one spot above West Ham in the league standings, have expressed interest in bringing him to Selhurst Park.

Palace already have Mamadou Sakho and Bakary Sako in their ranks, so signing Diafra will make it a third Sakho at Selhurst Park! [Read more…]

Video- Diafra Sakho says he still wants to leave West Ham

In an interview with journalist Claude Atcheba, West Ham striker Diafra Sakho has said that he still wants to leave the club.

Sakho was on the verge of a move to Rennes earlier in the summer, but it broke down, with the Hammers apparently not willing to let the Senegalese international down because they hadn’t signed an adequate replacement (so reckons Sakho in the interview)

The striker also mentioned that Slaven Bilic had no influence in bringing him back [Read more…]

Media Player Ratings- How did our players fare against Swansea (H)?

Here is a small table that shows ratings for West Ham’s players for their game against Swansea on 30 September, 2017, as compiled from various media sources. Not surprisingly, substitutes Diafra Sakho and Arthur Masuaku have been rated highly for their contributions, while Mark Noble didn’t exactly crown himself in glory, according to the pundits. We agree that while Nobes didn’t have a great game, he was perhaps no better than the rest- this was a pretty poor performance overall. [Read more…]

Post Match Report & Thoughts- West Ham v Swansea | Win that papers over the cracks?

Going into this game, West Ham had never failed to score at home against Swansea, finding the back of the net 74 times in 31 previous games against the Swans.

Going into this game, Swansea were yet to concede an away goal in the Premier League this season.

One of those two records was to be broken at the London Stadium, and for eighty nine minutes, it looked like the former, before substitutes Arthur Masuaku and Diafra Sakho combined for a goal that saw Swansea concede a late winner for the second Saturday in a row. [Read more…]

Diafra Sakho injury report- Striker out for 6 weeks after Man Utd injury

West Ham’s strikers don’t seem to having the best of seasons, with Diafra Sakho the latest addition to the treatment room. The Senegalese forward, who became the first “proper” Hammers striker to score in the league in 16/17 with his goal against Manchester United over the weekend, has now been ruled out for six weeks due to a thigh injury.

Sakho is expected to return in January, but will be unavailable for West Ham if he is selected to do duty at the Africa Cup of Nations for Senegal [Read more…]
