Several West Ham players named in Team of the Week for Premier League Round 14

West Ham defied the odds by registering a 3-0 win over Newcastle at St.James Park in GW14, and several Hammers players have been rewarded for their fine performances in various pundits’ Premier League Teams of the Week.

Newcastle definitely had their chances, but the Hammers defence was top notch, and each of the four Teams of the Week we’ve covered here has at least one WHUFC defender in it.

Felipe Anderson and Javier Hernandez, by virtue of their goals scored, were the obvious favourites in many pundits’ XI. Chicharito made the most of a rare start with two well taken goals, while Brazilian Anderson added the icing on the cake when he scored the visitors’ third in second half stoppage time.

Garth Crooks: The BBC Premier League Team of the Week for Round 14 had three West Ham players- Pablo Zabaleta in defence, Felipe Anderson in midfield and Javier Hernandez upfront. [Read more…]

Newcastle v West Ham Predictions- What do the pundits say about the Hammers’ chances at St James Park?

West Ham will be looking to halt Newcastle United’s three game winning run when they meet the Magpies at St.James Park on Saturday afternoon. Robert Snodgrass is available for selection after missing last weekend’s loss against Man City through suspension. While NUFC are certainly in form, the ref for this game is one under whom they’ve never won a Premier League game. The Magpies though did do a league double over the Hammers last season and manager Rafa Benitez has a good record against the Irons. [Read more…]

Referee announced for Newcastle v West Ham- Magpies have lost all their Premier League games under him!

The referee for West Ham’s weekend clash against Newcastle United has been officially announced as Paul Tierney. This is the beginning of a crucial run of winnable (at least on paper!) fixtures for the Hammers and Newcastle’s past record under Tierney will give them more confidence ahead of this Round 14 clash at St.James’ Park.

The Magpies, in FOUR attempts so far, have NOT won a Premier League game in which Tierney was the man in the middle. All four games ended in losses for Newcastle and West Ham will be more than hopeful of breaking the three game winning streak of Rafa Benitez’s men.

Newcastle, it must be remembered, did the DOUBLE over West Ham last season, winning 3-0 at home and 3-2 at the London Stadium. [Read more…]

Chancel Mbemba Sakho Swap Deal?- Hammers to exchange striker for defender?

If rumours are to be believed, Newcastle are prepared to let Chancel Mbemba go to West Ham in exchange for Diafra Sakho. Hammers boss David Moyes has played three in defence (mostly Winston Reid, Angelo Ogbonna and Aaron Cresswell) since replacing Slaven Bilic, and feels another defender would strengthen his squad, with veteran James Collins and youngster Declan Rice the only other options available.

The versatile Mbemba, who can play in various positions across defence, also has age on his side- he’s only 23. While Newcastle rate him as one of their better players, the Magpies do need a striker and Diafra Sakho is said to desperately want a move away from the London Stadium. Sakho has been linked with Palace, but it now seems that St.James Park might also be a potential destination for the Senegalese international [Read more…]

West Ham v Newcastle 2017 player ratings- Arnautovic and Masuaku shine

Here is look at how West Ham’s players were rated by major media outlets after their disappointing 3-2 loss against Newcastle at the London Stadium over the weekend. It was a massive win for Rafa Benitez’s Magpies and a morale crushing result against West Ham- you don’t expect to collect four points against Chelsea and Arsenal only to lose to a woefully out-of-form Newcastle.

Not surprisingly Arthur Masuaku and Marko Arnautovic were the pick of the lot, although the Daily Mail surprised us by rating Arthur below Michail Antonio and the same as Cheikhou Kouyate. Masuaku was one of the few who looked like they could make things happen, with West Ham crying for creativity in the absence of the suspended Manuel Lanzini.

Kouyate and Obiang had a poor day in midfield. The former has come in for more criticism than the latter, and so have defender Pablo Zabaleta, who was troubled by the pacy Christian Atsu all afternoon, and Michail Antonio, who clearly looks short on match fitness [Read more…]
