Liverpool v West Ham Report & Analysis- Reds complete “4-1” league double over Hammers

A dire second half performance saw West Ham slump to defeat at Anfield to Liverpool, who ended up beating the Hammers by the same 4-1 scoreline they had won by when the two teams met at the London Stadium earlier this season.

Given West Ham’s poor record at Anfield and Liverpool’s attacking prowess, few would’ve given the Hammers a chance before the game, but a two week break and the club’s encouraging performances against the likes of Arsenal, Man City and Chelsea earlier in the season had several fans hopeful.

West Ham boss David Moyes, who had never won at Anfield as manager, made two changes, bringing in Patrice Evra for his club debut for Michail Antonio and Manuel Lanzini back from injury at the expense of Javier Hernandez. [Read more…]

Player Ratings- How the media rated our player performances vs Liverpool (H)

It wasn’t pretty to watch, and it shows in the ratings. West Ham lost 4-1 to Liverpool over the weekend, a result that saw them drop into the bottom three after Everton’s 3-2 win over Watford at Goodison Park on Sunday.

Here is how the media viewed and rated our players- this table is a compilation from five sources- Football.London, the Daily Mail, Sky, the Mirror and the Independent (all ratings out of 10)

The defence, not surprisingly, came in for criticism from all sources. However in the case of Edimilson Fernandes, playing out of position at RWB and taken off at half time for Andy Carroll, the Daily Mail thought he was “West Ham’s best player in the first half” and gave him a 7. Mark Noble red card vs Liverpool rescinded | Noble can play against Newcastle

Mark Noble is free to play against Newcastle United after the Football Association rescinded his red card. Noble was sent off in the 78th minute by referee Kevin Friend in West Ham’s 3-0 win over Liverpool for a challenge on Danny Ings. Noble himself said after the game that the challenge was not “even worth a yellow” and the FA have now overturned Friend’s decision. [Read more…]

Downing strikes back at Roger’s comments

Stewart Downing, the Hammers’ new signing, has hit back at his former Liverpool boss by stating that his move down south to the Boleyn Ground was not motivated by cash.

Downing’s ex manager Brendan Rogers, had stated that the England international wasn’t originally intended to be sold but was ‘offered a really good deal at West Ham United’. [Read more…]

Joe Cole regrets playing for Liverpool

West Ham United’s Joe Cole has remarked that he was wrong to go to Liverpool stating that he wasn’t passionate about the Reds.

Joe Cole left Chelsea as a free agent and didn’t have much choice. He could not see himself at North London rivals Tottenham so chose Anfield instead and spent two and a half years regretting the decision. [Read more…]
