Hammers watch- How did West Ham’s players on international duty fare?

Several West Ham players were called up to their respective international sides during the fortnightly break following the Hammers’ loss to Brighton at the Amex.

Here, we take a look at how the players performed during the break (updated for games played till October 16, 2018)

Marko Arnautovic: Manuel Pellegrini would’ve probably preferred his talismanic striker to have had a much needed break to get over his niggles. But he played the full 90 for Austria on Friday night against Northern Ireland, and also scored the winner for Franco Foda’s side in Vienna.

Arnautovic did not play in Austria’s loss to Denmark on the 16th of October as part of a deal between the club and the Austrian FA to manage his knee injury.

Arthur Masuaku: Masuaku made his long awaited international debut for DR Congo, but it was not a happy one as his side suffered their first defeat at home in four years after a shock 2-1 loss to Zimbabwe. The DR Congo side is a strong one, with the likes of Yannick Bolasie, Cedric Bakambu, Gael Kakuta and Chancel Mbemba all featuring in this game, but were upset by Sunday Chidzambwa’s men.

Masuaku started the game and played 82 minutes before being replaced by Jean-Marc Makusu.

Masuaku withdrew from the squad with injury, so did not play in the reverse game in Zimbabwe on the 16th.

Robert Snodgrass: Snodgrass withdrew from the Scotland side citing injury, and didn’t feature in either of their games- the Nations League tie against Israel and the friendly against Portugal.

There are some concerns whether Snodgrass, who has regularly been brought off the bench by Pellegrini, will be fit for West Ham’s next league clash against Tottenham Hotspur.

Lukasz Fabianski: Fabianski was an unused sub as Poland lost 1-0 to Roberto Mancini’s Italy on Sunday evening.

Andriy Yarmolenko: Like Fabianski, Yarmolenko’s Ukraine were first up against Roberto Mancini’s Italy (October 10), and like his Polish counterpart, the West Ham winger didn’t see action either.

He however played in Ukraine’s 1-0 win over the Czech Republic on the 16th.
