Post Match Analysis- Stoke v West Ham 2017- WHUFC’s first away league win of 17/18 season

West Ham claimed their first away win of the 2017/18 Premier League season as their revival under David Moyes continued following a fine 3-0 away win at the Bet365 Stadium against Stoke City.

Mark Hughes had never lost to West Ham in his managerial career at Stoke (W3, D5 prior to this outing), but a penalty from Mark Noble in his 300th Premier League game for West Ham, and late goals from former Stoke player Marko Arnautovic and substitute Diafra Sakho saw the visitors climb out of the drop zone.

With Crystal Palace winning away at Leicester in the early kick off, Stoke and West Ham were 16th and 19th respectively in the league table going into this clash, which was delayed by an hour owing to power failure at the Bet365 Stadium [Read more…]

If you’d told West Ham fans before these three games that they’d come to within seven minutes of beating Man City at the Etihad, see off defending champions Chelsea and hold Arsenal to a goalless stalemate, they’d have bitten your hands off. As it is, things look far brighter for the Hammers after a draw against Arsenal, while for the Gunners, it looks set to be another disappointing league season.

David Moyes opted to keep faith with the same side that had done the business against Chelsea. James Collins returned to the bench after an injury layoff, but Moyes persisted with the troika of Reid, Ogbonna and Cresswell that had fared very well as a partnership against Antonio Conte’s side. Post Match Report & Analysis West Ham vs Chelsea- Moyes gets first win as WHUFC manager

On paper, this fixture between the East half of London and the West half was a mismatch- Chelsea had taken 19 points from their last seven games, while West Ham, with two different managers in charge, had mustered just TWO.

However the Hammers had put in a resolute defensive performance against Man City at the Etihad and many fans reckoned they could pick up points against Chelsea if they produced an encore. However West Ham in recent times have always struggled to string two good performances together, which was the primary reason for the fans’ pessimism.

David Moyes made a few changes, with Winston Reid returning in place of youngster Declan Rice to take his spot in a three man defence along with Angelo Ogbonna and Aaron Cresswell. [Read more…]

West Ham v Chelsea- Another tough test for home side

West Ham will be aiming for an encore of the gritty performance they delivered against league leaders Man City when they host Chelsea this weekend.

The Hammers were expected to be demolished by Pep Guardiola’s side at the Etihad, but instead led them at half time and came to within seven minutes of coming away with an unlikely point. City had dropped points against only one team in the league all season and West Ham came mighty close to becoming the second, before David Silva’s sublime late goal continued the home side’s winning run.

There were plenty of positives for West Ham, with young Declan Rice delivering an assured performance in defence as part of a three man makeshift back three along with Angelo Ogbonna and Aaron Cresswell. Italian defender Ogbonna also scored his first ever league goal for the Hammers against the Citizens. [Read more…]

Man City vs West Ham 2017- Post Match Analysis, Thoughts and Report

Angelo Ogbonna scored his first ever Premier League goal, but a gutsy West Ham side were eventually beaten by Man City, who equalled Chelsea and Arsenal’s record of thirteen consecutive wins in the same Premier League season with this hard fought 2-1 victory at the Etihad.

Both sides made four changes for this clash. City boss Pep Guardiola, with one eye on the upcoming Manchester derby, opted not to risk Vincent Kompany and Fernandinho, both of whom were a booking away from a potential ban.

For West Ham, Adrian made his first start in goal in place of Joe Hart, who was ineligible to play against his parent club as per the terms of his loan deal. With Winston Reid joining the injured list, David Moyes opted for three at the back, with Aaron Cresswell joining Ogbonna and youngster Declan Rice. Pablo Zabaleta captained the club for the first time ever, and Arnautovic, Ayew and Sakho were all left on the bench as Michail Antonio started alone upfront. [Read more…]
