Grant Gets Another Job… Somehow!

Former West Ham manager Avram Grant is set to take over Serbian champions Partizan Belgrade.

Grant was hired by Gollivan after they fired Mr. Nice Gianfranco Zola, who had kept West Ham in the Premier League the previous season, even though he begged for Benni McCarthy which was surely an additional hindrance!

West Ham finished bottom of the Premier League under Grant with a paltry 33 points!

It seems from my point of view Grant is only good at taking over other managers teams and changing nothing, first Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea where he played the exact same tactics and team followed by Portsmouth and Harry Redknapp’s regime where he again proceeded to play the exact same team and tactics.

Without a good manager to go in after it seemed the Israeli Grinch had few ideas and saw amazing positives out of being battered every week!

George John Set To Sign

First bit of substantial news on the transfer front is that George John, an American defender could be announced as West Ham’s first signing of this window in the next 24 hours.

The 24-year-old who currently plays for FC Dallas in the MLS has reportedly passed a medical and agreed terms with West Ham United.

Previously  he was poised to join Premier League team Blackburn Rovers at the start of the current season but having agreed a £1.2million deal, the transfer fell through after he failed to agree personal terms.

Could be a good signing but who knows. Any one else know much about him?

David Gold Not Ruling Out January Departures

Reading the exclusive interview with David Gold on WHUFC.com and it was interesting about his take on players leaving the club:

There have been a couple of stories about players going out in January. Do you need to sell players or are there prospects that some players might go out?

You could put the questions the other way around. Can we afford to bring in new players? All new acquisitions will have to be paid for by David Sullivan and myself. It’s not our intention to burden the football club with any further debt. It’s important that we reduce debt and not increase it or at least hold it to its current level.

Do players have to go? It’s not a question of ‘do they have to go’; we don’t want them to go. We want to keep our best players, we’ve got a very tough four months to go and we’ve got through the first half of the season and we’re in good shape as we’re equal top as we speak. There was a massive closing of the gap on Monday and I know that we felt that we might struggle to beat Coventry but if their keeper hadn’t had the best game of his life we’d have probably won the game two or three nil. We don’t want to lose any of our best players.

It’s very difficult for a Chairman of a football club to say ‘That’s definitely not going to happen’. No supporter wants to lose any of their good players and we want to keep our best players as our focus is 100 per cent on promotion and you don’t gain promotion if you start selling your best players.

So lets hope that none of our best players decide they want pastures new!!

Potts Wins SBOBET Player of The Month

News coming out from West Ham’s official:

Dan Potts has completed a remarkable December 2011 by being voted West Ham United’s SBOBET player of the month.

The 17-year-old, who beat a life-threatening bout of leukaemia less than two years ago, was handed his début by manager Sam Allardyce in the 1-0 home npower Championship victory over Barnsley on 17 December. Potts kept his place for the 1-1 Boxing Day draw at Birmingham City and 2-1 New Year’s Eve defeat at Derby County.

The teenager has impressed with his poise, composure and willingness to get forward and has been tipped for a very bright future by both Big Sam and Academy Director Tony Carr.

Potts took 34.9 per cent of the vote, with Robert Green second on 24.4 per cent and James Tomkins third on 23.5 per cent.

Good on you Pottsy! Let’s hope this is a small taste of things to come!

Transfer Window Open

So the madness begins!! What most clubs have been waiting for, that pesky window to open so they can strengthen their squads!

Looking at our squad I think we are desperately short of some fire power, with Carlton Cole, Fredi Piquionne, John Carew and Sam Baldock hardly banging the goals in for fun. If we are serious about getting promoted automatically we need to get a proven goalscorer in. I don’t think it’s reasonable to keep relying on midfielders and defenders to pop up with goals to win us matches, it’s nice but we need to load to be put on the forwards!

If you look at Southampton they have Ricky Lambert notching up goals for fun and that is something I think we need desperately!

Anyway enough of my ramblings, let the craziness commence! Although I am sure it will be quite until January 31st!!
