Media Player Ratings- How did West Ham fare in the Carabao Cup v Spurs

West Ham were unable to produce an encore of their stunning win from 12 months ago as they exited the League Cup following a 3-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur. Lilywhites coach Mauricio Pochettino made ten changes from the side that had lost to Man City on Monday. His opposite number Pellegrini couldn’t make as many, owing to injuries and suspensions, but the Chilean did his best to cobble together a side that had a chance against a second string Spurs outfit while also giving some key players a bit of a break- with the likes of Fabianski, Balbuena and Zabaleta rested.

Unfortunately for Pellegrini, defensive errors let his side down. All three goals scored by Spurs could be chalked down to individual errors, with Angelo Ogbonna and Arthur Masuaku culpable. The latter has already attracted the ire of fans for some shoddy defending- the way he let Glenn Murray score for Brighton is one example, and the way he allowed Son to score Tottenham’s second will only add to their frustration and anger. Spurs had been unbeaten this decade under the ref for this game, and their record continued with this victory at the London Stadium. [Read more…]

Referee announced for West Ham Tottenham Carabao Cup clash- Spurs unbeaten this decade under him!

The referee for Wednesday evening’s EFL Cup clash between West Ham and Tottenham at the London Stadium has been announced, and it’s Stuart Attwell, who also presided over the Hammers’ 2-1 loss at home to Bournemouth in the second week of the Premier League back in August.

Attwell has refereed five Premier League games so far in this 18/19 season- West Ham were the only home team to lose. [Read more…]

Media Player Ratings- How did West Ham’s players fare against Leicester?

This game between Leicester and West Ham, for obvious reasons, took a backseat because of what happened afterwards. Feels odd to talk football after that helicopter crash, but the show must go on, and so here we are, nearly two full days after the incident, with the media player ratings for this game.

There have been plenty of games this season where West Ham have deserved more- Brighton and Spurs immediately come to mind, and so do the fixtures against Chelsea and Arsenal. However at the King Power, it would only be fair to say that Leicester did deserve at least a point after their second half efforts. West Ham were fantastic defensively and the Foxes only managed to breach that resolute claret and blue wall thanks to a unlucky deflection from Fabian Balbuena that left goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski helpless. Pedro Obiang to miss West Ham’s clash against Leicester, says Manuel Pellegrini

West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini has indicated that Saturday evening’s game against Leicester will come too early for injured midfielder Pedro Obiang. The Spaniard missed last weekend’s home defeat against Spurs, which forced the Chilean gaffer to play a midfield trio of Declan Rice, Mark Noble and Robert Snodgrass against the Lilywhites.

With Andriy Yarmolenko out for six months following his Achilles rupture, Pellegrini would’ve been hoping for some good news on the Obiang front, but the 26 year old medio may now see action only in the midweek Cup game against Spurs.

Here is what Pellegrini had to say about Obiang’s injury at the pre match press conference. [Read more…]

Pundit Predictions- How will West Ham fare against Leicester this weekend?

After a disappointing home loss to Tottenham Hotspur- their sixth straight winless game at home under Martin Atkinson, West Ham’s final league assignment this month sees them travel to the King Power Stadium to take on Leicester. Neither side has won a league game this month, but the ref for this fixture, Michael Oliver, was the man with the whistle when the Hammers beat Manchester United at home. Will Manuel Pellegrini’s side snap their winless streak and beat the Foxes? [Read more…]
