West Ham give up on Carroll

West Ham finally admit defeat in it’s attempt to sign Andy Carroll from Liverpool.

West Ham had agreed a fee with Liverpool for Carroll in the region of £2 Million to take the striker on loan initially with another £18 Million being paid for the permanent transfer of the striker should West Ham have retained their place in the Premier League.

However, it soon became apparent Carroll had no interest in joining us, even on a loan deal, and would stay put in Liverpool unless his boyhood club Newcastle came knocking or an English Premier League club playing in Europe.

High hopes from a man who couldn’t hit a barn door from 5-yards for Liverpool after paying a mammoth £35 Million for him. Interestingly, no clubs who meet his strict criteria have come calling even though they know of his availability!

Crazy Wages

In an attempt to change Carrolls mind West Ham were ready to offer him a crazy wage deal for an even more absurd 8-years, but thankfully this too never turned his pony tailed head which I am quite thankful for as he would have needed to play like a complete superstar from day one for us to have ever recouped our money should we have cashed in on him at any point.

Dead Deal

David Sullivan’s son Jack informed his Twitter following on Monday that the deal was finally dead after doing everything possible to be Carroll in a West Ham shirt.

Shortly after a club source told ESPN:

Sadly, it is true, we have conceded defeat in trying to sign Andy Carroll.

So onwards and upwards in the search for quality additions to the West Ham squad which I am sure we can all agree are much needed.

Morrison loaned to Birmingham

West Ham starlet Ravel Morrison has moved to Birmingham on loan for the season.

ravel-morrisonMorrison was signed from Manchester United in January with the reputation of being  the best young player they have produced since a certain ginger nut called Paul Scholes.

Ferguson was said to be furious with the demands Morrison made when it came to negotiating a new contract, £40k per week was the rumoured request from camp Morrison, which Ferguson thought was unacceptable from a player who had only made a couple of first team outings.

Trouble

Allardyce was well aware that Morrison came with baggage and was known to always be in trouble up in Manchester, however he took a gamble on the young man who no doubt has precocious talent, but within no time at all he was in trouble with the FA for homophobic tweets.

Rumours have been rife as to why Morrison has been shipped out when West Ham really need some creativity in the middle of the park, my personal favourite is that while apparently being injured and unable to train he was actually in Disneyland and was posting pictures of himself on-line like all clever truants do! I think his favourite film must be Ferris Bueller’s Ravel Morrison’s Day Off.

So let’s hope a move to Birmingham with regular first-team football can sort out Ravel, otherwise he will be in danger of wasting his undoubted talent.

Sunday Gossip

Big Sam thinks Carroll guarantees Premier League survival, Mohsni deal rejected and Baldock on his way out.

Allardyce has been talking to The People this weekend about the failed capture of Andy Carroll.

With Carroll not in Brendan Rodgers plans Allardyce thought a move to West Ham on loan would be perfect for Andy at this point in his career with regular first team football in the Premier League, however the player himself is not interested in a move to London which has disappointed Big Sam.

Allardyce was confident that Carroll would keep West Ham in the Premier League if he signed, he told The People:

I would have probably stuck my neck out and said we would almost certainly stay up with him on board.

We wouldn’t have thought we would have had any chance of signing a player of Andy Carroll’s capabilities but it became clear a couple of weeks ago there was a possibility of a loan.

Unfortunately, at this moment, it’s not the case.

Bilel Mohsni Bid Rejected

Mohsni, 24,  the versatile French player who we have on trial from Southend has impressed the West Ham coaching staff enough for them to put an offer in for him.

However, Southend have rejected the earth shattering bid of £150k for the player! They must think we have more money than we do and are offering £17 Million for Andy Carroll or something? I think they are trying to squeeze us for an eye watering £175k!!

Never Mind The Baldocks

According to SkySports West Ham have agreed a deal with Bristol City for Sam Baldock, with the fee thought to be 500k less than West Ham paid MK Dons for his services just a year ago.

Not sure about this as I think he could have been a Tony Cottee type player for us, maybe a season on loan with regular first team football would have done him good, but certainly not sell him before he has had a chance to prove he can do the business.

Another Pre-Season Loss

West Ham lost to Ipswich Town 3-1 yesterday with Tractor Boy defender Tommy Smith saying:

I think first-half especially we played some lovely football and at times it may have looked like we were the Premier League side to the fans.

Well your not, so enjoy your Premier League football in The Championship 🙂

Konate Competition

Moussa Konate, the Sengal scoring monster who West Ham have been trying to sign is now also interesting Newcastle after his Olympic performances.

West Ham have apparently already lodged a bid of £1.5 Million for the hit-man, so watch this space.

Not much else is happening but I expect we will see some movement next week on some strikers.

West Ham’s Best Starting XI

Today I was asked by a foreign journalist what West Ham’s likely formation would be and what I would consider our best line-up.

This got me thinking as we have made numerous signings already and are hoping to add a few more quality additions.

Having gone over all the players we have signed and players we have already I came up with the following synopsis.

West Ham will be playing 4-3-3, however this can turn into 4-5-1 if we are defending a lead with the two wide players coming back into midfield, but the majority of the time it will be 4-3-3.

GK Jussi Jaaskelainen – We signed Jussi from Bolton on a free transfer to replace England keeper Rob Green who has moved to Fulham.

LB Matt Taylor or George McCartney – Taylor is a better player who is a set piece specialist but prefers to play midfield, McCartney has signed for West Ham for the second time from Sunderland and is a solid player.

CB James Tomkins – England U21 defender who is also playing for GB in the Olympic Games, fans favourite and best defender we have produced since Rio Ferdinand.

CB James Collins – Welsh international signed from Aston Villa this week for his second spell with West Ham, good solid defender.

RB Guy Demel – Ivorian player who struggled last season after moving to England from Germany, big strong and quick but I think West Ham will look for another RB.

DM Mohamed Diame – Signed from Wigan on a free transfer, good things are expected as a lot of teams were trying to sign him with rumours of Manchester Utd being interested at one point.

CM Kevin Nolan – Captain and one of Sam Allardyces favourite players, scores a lot of crucial goals and is a fantastic influence on the players off the pitch, is known to be used by Allardyce as his eyes and ears when with the players away from the club, players seem to love him.

CM Mark Noble – Noble is a local lad, had his best season last year for West Ham and was the player of the season just ahead of Tomkins, loves West Ham and the fans love him, works hard and is always looking for the ball.

Left Wing Ricardo Vaz Te – Signed from Barnsley in January after scoring a lot of goals in the first half of the season, Vaz Te was amazing for West Ham scoring lots of goals including a hat trick as well as the winning goal in the play-off final at Wembley, is very skilful and has one of the hardest shots I have seen, expecting him to be the surprise package of the PL.

Right Wing Modibo Maiga – Signed this transfer window, has a great record of scoring goals in the last few seasons in France, can play up front or on the wing, Newcastle were looking to sign him before they purchased Papis Cisse but he failed a medical.

Striker Carlton Cole – West Ham need a new striker as Cole does not score enough goals, has the ability and attributes to be a much better player but has never quite done it for West Ham with goals, good link player but I can see a new striker being signed before the league starts.

So what do you guys think? What would your best team be? Do we need another striker or are you a Carlton Cole lover?

Thursday Transfer Update

West Ham are very busy in the transfer market this window with seven players already in the door and more to follow.

Let’s kick off with Spanish defender Ivan Ramis who was all set to move to West Ham after a fee was agreed with his club Mallorca, however after passing his medical he got a call from a certain Roberto Martinez who whispered sweet nothings in Spanish in his ear and now he looks set to move to Wigan.

So was we being used by Mr. Ramis to get Wigan to sweeten the deal? Either way we signed James Collins so we haven’t been left high and dry as we have a good defender who crucially has Premier League experience.

Carlos Tevez

Apparently a deal to take the Argentinian striker on loan for 6 months is in place, however it’s conditional on City signing a top quality striker, who I am assuming is Robin Van Persie who wants out at Arsenal.

I wasn’t paying much attention to this but betting on this transfer has shortened all the way to 3/1 joint favourites with AC Milan. I usually find when the odds turn around like that then there is usually something to it. Whether or not all the pieces fall in to place to make this deal happen is another thing.

Andy Carroll

Carroll was left out of Liverpools Europa squad yesterday citing injury, however that says to me Rodgers isn’t keen on the player and wants him to move to West Ham as soon as possible or get on the phone and try and get Newcastle to offer the same package so they can cash in and get some replacements in.

Carlos Sanchez

Sanchez is a defensive midfield player who is interesting Bolton, West Ham are now looking to scupper the deal for the man known as ‘The Rock’.

How about you guys? Heard anything on the down low you would care to share?
