In an attempt to lure Andy Carroll to Upton Park, West Ham are willing to shatter wage cap.
West Ham continue their pursuit of Andy Carroll today with the club ready to break all transfer and wage records to get the big striker to ply his trade at The Boleyn.
The Daily Mail are reporting that an 8-year contract worth an eye watering £36 Million is on offer to get the England international to sign for the club, this would put Carroll on £90k per week.
Liverpool have already agreed to the £2 Million loan for this season with a further £17 Million to be paid on the condition that West Ham are still in the Premier League. Considering that Carroll has only scored 6 goals for the reds since his record breaking £35 Million move back in 2011 I think that’s the best deal they could have hoped for, especially now Newcastles interest appears to have waned now that Demba Ba’s £7 Million release clause is no more after no clubs activated it by July 31st.
It appears Sam Allardyce is desperate to get Carroll on board with a source telling The Daily Mail:
‘The manager wants him badly and the board are backing him to the hilt.’
What’s strange is that West Ham Co-Owner David Sullivan only recently commented that the club would never pay over the top wages again as the previous Icelandic regime nearly bankrupt the club by doing exactly that.
I am not sure what other fans think about this but paying this kind of money for Carroll is crazy, surely we could get the spine of a great team together for the same amount we would spend on one player? If we want strikers then Ba was available for £7 Million, Berbatov is reportedly available for £5 Million and then you could try and pry Defoe away from Tottenham as he really needs to move on to get some playing time. All three combined would cost less than Carroll and if you offered the kind of wages being talked about I am sure you would get two out of three of them!
In other news James Collins is set to complete his move to West Ham today, more news as soon as I get it.
