Jaaskelainen Could Be The One

With keeper Rob Green halfway out of the Upton Park door I sense a tingle in my force field that Jaaskelainen could be the one to take over Green’s position at West Ham.

It’s no big secret that Sam Allardyce likes Jaaskelainen as he worked with him when he was in charge of Bolton Wanderers and I think it’s safe to say that Big Sam is a fan of the 37 year Finn.

Keep an ear to the ground for the next 24 hours as it does look like Jaaskelainen is going to be a Hammer. Big Sam has been keeping tabs on the keeper and it looks as if by Monday, he’ll have his man.

It’s also no big secret that Jaaskelainen is keen to stay in top flight football and West Ham just might be his ticket to ride. The keeper is set to end a 15 year association with Bolton Wanderers and has turned down a new contract. it’s also amazing that Jussi holds the record for being the longest serving foreign player in the Premier League after joining Bolton Wanderers in 1997. let’s hope he can serve the Hammers as well – (if he comes 🙂

That’s enough banter about goalkeepers, England has some business to attend to on monday against France in the Eurocup 2012. What do you think of our chances of success? According to Spain’s AndrĂ©s Iniesta, the scorer of the goal that won Spain the World Cup, he fancies the French to turn us over! Cheeky midget! Apparently he reckons France’s form of late will give them the edge.

I think it’s a case of believing in the players we have available. I mean, everyone wrote the blues off against Barcelona, didn’t they? That’s right, it’s Iniesta’s team, too 🙂 Have a good one!

Malaga Move For Rob Green

As everyone already knows, Rob Green is now a free agent and is seeking pastures new. There has been talk of Spurs or even QPR, who are on the lookout for a new keeper. News has come in that Spanish club Malaga are interested in Green, too.

This might appeal to Green as he would be paid well at Malaga as they have a backer with money to throw around. Past and recent signings for the Spanish club have been in the shape of ex Villareal star Santi Cazorla, ex Real Madrid frontman Ruud van Nistelrooy and Joachim, who came from Valencia.

Malaga is not a bad outfit and would be a good move for Green I think. A few months back they held Real Madrid to a draw with a last minute peach of a goal by Santi Cazorla which gave Casillas no chance whatsoever.

The club’s president Sheikh Abdullah Al Thani has poured the cash into the club and it shows. I think that Malaga can only get better and with Green’s help I’m sure they can make their presence felt in La Liga.

Malaga also has a large British following on the Costa del Sol and Green will probably feel right at home – he might even think that Malaga is like Bethnal Green on a Saturday night – who knows!

Green, who’s out of contract at the end of June has failed to agree new terms with the irons and I think it’s a bit of a shame to lose him – it doesn’t matter where he goes, we’ve lost a good keeper, haven’t we?

Hammers Bid ÂŁ4 Million For Holt

News coming from SkySports today is that West Ham have bid ÂŁ4 Million to take Grant Holt from Norwich City.

The 30-year-old had a transfer request rejected last month and appears keen to bring his time at Norwich to an end despite enjoying three very good years with the club.

He helped Norwich win back to back promotions and scored 15 goals in the league in his début season in The Premiership.

Sam Allardyce sees the big striker as the perfect man to spearhead the Hammers first campaign back in the big time.

However, Paul Lamberts departure to Aston Villa could see them make a move for the 30-year old hit man.

I like Holt and he reminds me of Dean Ashton but do we really need a striker of this age as our first signing?

Rob Green Exit Confirmed

David Gold today confirmed Rob Green will not be signing a new contract and is set to leave on a free transfer.

Green is currently with the England squad as they prepare for Euro 2012 and looks to have rejected a new deal offered to him by West Ham.

Gold’s Twitter Account said:

“Robert Green is a free agent he has chosen to move on.

“Nobody wants Rob to leave but nothing is for ever, he must do what is best for him and we must do what is best for us.”

Green signed for us from Norwich in 2006 and has proved to have been an excellent servant for the club making some wonderful saves over the seasons.

Jussi Jaaskelainen looks set to be signed on a free transfer to replace Green, while there are still whispers the club are interested in David Stockdale. Other keepers available would be Paul Robinson and Craig Gordon who was released by Sunderland.

I have been a big fan of Green in a West Ham shirt but I do feel he lacked a few key attributes needed to be world class, these would be commanding his area and coming for crosses which I felt he was rooted to his line to often, and his kicking was awful, either he kicked it out or had to make a save as his kick went straight to an opposing forward.

Anyhow I wish Rob Green the best and hopefully he goes to a big club rather than a QPR as I feel there would be no point in a move like this and it would be motivated by money.
