West Ham’s Manuel Lanzini is one of six Premier League based players in Argentina manager Jorge Sampaoli’s final 23 member squad. Surprisingly (or unsurprisingly for some), there is no space for in form Inter striker Maurio Icardi (nor for Icardi’s soon to be teammate Lautaro Martinez), with Sampaoli chosing to go with Messi, Higuain, Dybala and Aguero upfront. International Round up- Lanzini, Arnautovic score, Rice MOTM for Ireland
There was some good news for West Ham fans in the first set of matches during the March international break. Star playmaker Manuel Lanzini made his first start for Argentina at the Etihad Stadium in a friendly against Italy and scored an absolute screamer to help Sampaoli’s men beat the 2006 World Cup winners. His goal came shortly after Ever Banega had finished off a team move to put Argentina 1-0 ahead.
Marko Arnautovic netted twice as Austria beat Slovenia in a friendly.
Versatile midfielder Declan Rice was named Man of the Match in the Republic of Ireland’s game against Turkey, despite them ending on the losing side thanks to Mehmet Topal’s second half strike.
Lanzini is however expected to be a doubt for Argentina’s next game after picking up a knock in the fixture against the Azzurri. [Read more…]
Comparison Stats- Marko Arnautovic under Moyes vs Arnautovic under Bilic
Marko Arnautovic has been a changed man since David Moyes replaced Slaven Bilic at the London Stadium, and the Austrian continued his fine form with a goal and assists for Manuel Lanzini in West Ham’s 4-1 win over Huddersfield. Arnautovic’s performance in that game prompted Football.London to give him a 10/10 rating– the first one they’ve given to any West Ham player in the current campaign.
Under Slaven Bilic, Arnautovic looked like an early candidate for “Flop signing of the summer”, and this infographic shows the dramatic change in the performances of him and Manuel Lanzini since Moyes arrived. He even earned a nomination for the December player of the month (the award eventually went to Harry Kane)
While we’ve known that the duo have improved, to see it in terms of numbers is quite an eye-opener, literally speaking.
Can a change of manager influence things that much? Looking at these stats, definitely yes! [Read more…]
Media Player Ratings- Huddersfield v West Ham (2018)
West Ham secured three crucial points against Huddersfield away on Saturday to continue their resurgence under David Moyes. Not surprisingly much of the praise was reserved for the attacking duo of Manuel Lanzini and Marko Arnautovic, who scored three of the Hammers’ four goals between them.
Austrian forward Arnautovic even bagged the first 10/10 rating by a West Ham player this season [Read more…]
Huddersfield v West Ham 2018 Report- Arnautovic Lanzini show gives Moyes 200th Premier League win
Manuel Lanzini’s brace, his first on the road in the Premier League for fourteen months and a beautiful effort from Austrian forward Marko Arnautovic were enough for West Ham to beat Huddersfield 4-1 at the John Smith’s Stadium and give coach David Moyes his 200th Premier League win as manager- only Sir Alex Ferguson, Arsene Wenger and Harry Redknapp have more wins than the Scotsman.
West Ham had lost only one of their last six Premier League games going into this clash- Huddersfield, by comparison, had won ONLY once in their last six, which mean that this would be an intriguing fixture despite the Hammers’ indifferent away form.
For West Ham, James Collins took the place of Winston Reid in defence and Arnautovic returned to the XI after recovering from a hamstring problem. David Wagner chose to put new Huddersfield signing Alex Pritchard on the bench. [Read more…]
