Barrera On His Way Out

Barrera who you say? Well I am talking of our Mexican winger Pablo Barrera who we signed a few years ago for £4 Million.

He came from his native Mexico with a good reputation and shone for his country in international tournaments, however he has never really settled at West Ham and having made only six league appearances for us I don’t think he has been given the chance to.

He was on loan to Real Zaragoza last year but didn’t do enough for them to want to take him permanently. He is still shining for Mexico though, and scored a double against the United States in the Gold Cup last summer.

It now appears though that Barrera’s time in East London has come to an end, with Mexican club Cruz Azul looking to seal the wingers signature in the coming days. It’s a shame as I would loved to have seen more of him and what he could do but I guess it just was not to be. Good luck Pablo!

Tuesday Transfer Update

Not much transfer activity to report of late so lets hope there is some activity behind the scenes we don’t know about.

However I will round up all the news and rumours I have heard about so far this week.

1. Wilfred Zaha

The rumour mill has been non stop with this one with some sources suggesting a deal could be struck this week. Not sure myself but would be an excellent signing as I believe Zaha is an outstanding prospect.

2. Nathaniel Clyne

Another day another young Crystal Palace player! Reports in some of the papers suggest a deal for Zaha was unlikely, so West Ham are instead focusing on Clyne who is a right back which is definitely a position we need to strengthen in and is another fantastic prospect, if we could pull off a deal for both Clyne and Zaha that would be something of a coup.

3. Nathan Redmond

Reports in the press are that The Hammers have launched a £1 million raid for the Birmingham City youngster. Redmond who is 18 made 24 appearances for Brum last year in The Championship scoring 5 goals.

4. Alberto Botia

The Daily Mail reports that West Ham are tracking Sporting Gijon centre back Alberto Botia, 23. Botia is a product of the famous Barcelona academy and is in a position West Ham are light after letting players like Faye go.

These are the main rumours and there is still talk of Luc Castignos, Elia, Gamberini, Matt Jarvis, Grant Holt and a whole list of other players! I will keep my eyes and ears open and any more exciting news I will be sure to let you know.

Green Finally Does One To QPR

Former West Ham keeper Rob Green has finally completed his move to QPR after several weeks of speculation of where he would end up after rejecting the chance to stay at West Ham.

Green who is currently with the national team at Euro 2012 was a free agent after his deal with The Hammers expired after our promotion winning campaign.

Hoops Manager Mark Hughes said:

Rob is obviously someone with vast experience at international and Premier League level and his pedigree speaks for itself.

He’s got all the characteristics of a top keeper and he’ll be a huge addition for us who will stimulate the goalkeeping group.

Green leaves Upton Park after a 6-year stay in the east end to join up with fellow London Premier League club QPR. The man himself said:

I’m excited about the challenge ahead and hugely encouraged by the direction in which the owners and Mark Hughes are looking to take the club,” said Green.

It’s an exciting period for everybody connected to QPR and I can’t wait to get started.

What he really means is “It’s a shame ‘Arry left Spurs as I was sure to go there as he loves a West Ham player, but seeing as he got the old tin tack I sold my soul to the highest bidder”!

I am only joking I am sad to see Greeny go, he was a good servant for us and I wish him all the best, it’s just a shame he has left us now we are on the up yet stayed through all the terrible Avram Grant times!

Brady: West Ham Have Transfer Target List

Karen Brady disclosed to Sky Sports News today that West Ham have a strategic plan drawn up by Sam Allardyce with a comprehensive list of players which the club are working towards bringing in.

West Ham have already concluded the signing of three players since their promotion to the Premier League, they are Mohamed Diame from Wigan, former Bolton keeper Jussi Jaaskelainen and Stephen Henderson from Portsmouth.

Speaking to SSN Brady said:

We hope to bring in a few more significant signings to improve our team and increase our chances of remaining in the Premier League and really ‘have a go’.

We want to compete and really make a contribution to this league. West Ham are a great club who deserve to play in the greatest league in the world.

Sam has made a very strategic plan. We have a comprehensive list of players we hope to bring in and we are working to do that.

During the interview she would not be drawn on the Grant Holt situation and said the club was still very hopeful of getting the Olympic Stadium.

So we have three good players already signed and none other than Henderson have commanded any kind of fee, lets hope we can now sign some exciting attacking talent to boost the squad further.

Breaking News: Diame Signs

Breaking news is that West Ham United have confirmed that they have reached an agreement to sign Senegal international midfielder Mohamed Diame.

The 25-year-old dynamic midfielder is extremely highly-rated and was being pursued by a number of clubs in the Premier League and abroad. He decided to move to the Boleyn Ground though after meeting manager Sam Allardyce in London this week.

Diame is our third signing so far behind goalkeepers Henderson and Jaaskelainen.

Speaking to WHUFC.com Diame said:

“I’m very happy and very excited to have joined the club and I’m looking forward to the start of the season.

“I know the fans here get behind the team all the time and I’m looking forward to showing everybody what I can do on the pitch.”

Allardyce also speaking to WHUFC.com said:

“His potential is really good and he’s ready to go and compete in the first team straight away as he’s had three years in the Premier League already.

“He’s 25 and can only get better and I hope he can go on to prove that to me and all of the West Ham United fans. He will be a very exciting addition to the squad.”

Great news in my opinion as this guy looks the real deal and will be a fantastic addition to our midfield and will plug that enforcer role vacated by Scott Parker. COYI!

Grant Holt Move Edging Closer

The Grant Holt transfer saga is still rumbling on, with news today that West Ham have increased their bid to £5.5million as they look to sign wantaway Norwich hit man.

The 31-year-old looks desperate to quit Carrow Road for pastures new despite the arrival of  a new man at the helm in Chris Hughton.

Manager Sam Allardyce has already seen a bid of £3.5m rejected for Holt, who scored an impressive 17 goals in his début season in the top flight.

I am not sure what Allardyce and co see in this guy to keep going back with improved offers, but £5.5million seems a lot of money for someone who will have a limited shelf life and no sell on value. Should we really be pushing the boat out and spending more than a quarter of our rumoured £20million transfer kitty on this guy?

If he signs I will support him and if he bangs in 20 goals and helps us into the top 10 then I am sure it will seem like a good gamble, but what if it goes south and we have another Benni McCarthy or John Carew?

Personally I would love to see the money used to sign Wilfred Zaha who could be a real star in the making. Crystal Palace have the knack of producing some great young talent of late and I see him as a very exciting addition to our squad who would add a new dimension to our forward line.

What do you think? Is Holt worth chasing for this kind of cash or am I being overly sceptical?
