Randolph opts for Boro switch

Following the arrival of Joe Hart on loan from Man City, Darren Randolph has opted to further his career in the Championship after agreeing an £5m switch to Middlesbrough.

Randolph competed with Adrian for a position under the sticks at the London Stadium and while he had his good moments, he didn’t exactly inspire confidence among Hammers fans.

A key reason for Randolph’s departure was the 2018 World Cup, with the 30 year old keen for regular football in order to stay as Ireland’s No.1 ahead of Keiren Westwood. [Read more…]

West Ham sign Joe Hart on loan

West Ham have completed the signing of Joe Hart on loan from Manchester City. The England stopper spent last season in the Italian top flight with Torino and will spend the whole of 2017/18 at the London Stadium.

Hart, who is on a £4.5m contract with City, will get paid £2.5m by West Ham (allowing the club to operate within their wage structure), but the Hammers will also pay £2m as loan fee to City, who will in turn bear the remaining part of the 30 year old’s wages. [Read more…]

Randolph gaffe sees Hammers drop two points at relegation threatened Sunderland

Sunderland hadn’t scored in the league for 675 minutes going into this game (they last netted in the 4-0 win over Palace back in February) and Wahbi Khazri hadn’t started for the Black Cats since October.

It took the Wearsiders 26 minutes more to break their duck and it was Tunisian winger Khazri who broke the duck, scoring DIRECTLY from a corner.

Bilic made two changes from the side that had beaten Swansea- Edimilson Fernandes for the suspended Mark Noble and Andy Carroll for the injured Michail Antonio.

The Hammers started well, with Manuel Lanzini’s early free kick forcing PFA Young Player of the Year nominee Jordan Pickford into a a smart save. However three minutes later, there was nothing Pickford could do to stop West Ham’s opener- Sam Byram’s cross from the right fell to Andy Carroll, and while the lanky striker made a hash of his attempt at goal, it ended up at the feet of the unmarked Andre Ayew, who fired home from close range.

Sunderland fans were incensed at Andre Marriner- Victor Anichebe apparently appeared to have been fouled just moments before but Marriner remained unmoved and it was from the resulting play that Ayew scored.

Anichebe had a measure of revenge on 26 minutes. He stood in front of Randolph for Khazri’s corner, effectively preventing the keeper from reaching the ball. Neither Edimilson Fernandes nor James Collins thought it prudent to head the ball and with no defender at the far post, Khazri’s corner directly went in, thus breaking a seven game goal scoring drought for David Moyes’ side. We’ve made our first signing of the summer in the form of Darren Randolph from Birmingham City. Randolph joins on a free, opting not to extend his Birmingham City contract. He will however be officially unveiled only on July 1 when his contract at St.Andrews officially expires.

The Bray born goalkeeper started his youth career at Charlton and left the Addicks at the age of 23 to join Motherwell. He left Fir Park in 2013 to join Birmingham City and has been an ever present for them under the sticks, missing just one league game over two seasons (that too owing to suspension!) [Read more…]
