Deadline Day Summary- No Dendoncker, No Smolov, Ayew sold to rival, Hugill signed from PNE

As far as transfer deadline days go, this was a pretty bad one, mildly put, for West Ham.

The day started with increased gossip surrounding midfielder Leander Dendoncker and striker Fyodor Smolov, with both players personally very keen on a move to the London Stadium. However West Ham were unable to agree a fee with Anderlecht for Dendoncker and Krasnodar for Smolov. They bid £16m for Dendoncker when his asking fee was somewhere around the £20m mark. The player had even skipped Anderlecht’s second training session for the day, waiting for a move. [Read more…]

Media Player Ratings- West Ham v Crystal Palace

West Ham managed a 1-1 draw at home against Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace on Tuesday night. Injuries and suspensions significantly limited manager David Moyes’ options, and he would’ve been reasonably pleased with a point that continued the Hammers’ unbeaten start to the New Year in the Premier league.

Diafra Sakho leaves West Ham to join Rennes

Wantaway striker Diafra Sakho has finally left West Ham, with French Ligue 1 outfit Stade Rennais snapping up the Senegalese international for a reported fee of £8m. Sakho has made no secret of his desire to leave the Hammers, and was on the verge of a summer switch to Rennes that broke down at the last moment because the Irons had not signed a replacement. Given that Marko Arnautovic, Andy Carroll, Manuel Lanzini and Andre Ayew are on the treatment table currently, West Ham fans should reasonably expect the club to sign another striker- potentially thought to be Russian Fydor Smolov, before the winter transfer window closes.
