Deadline Day Summary- No Dendoncker, No Smolov, Ayew sold to rival, Hugill signed from PNE

As far as transfer deadline days go, this was a pretty bad one, mildly put, for West Ham.

The day started with increased gossip surrounding midfielder Leander Dendoncker and striker Fyodor Smolov, with both players personally very keen on a move to the London Stadium. However West Ham were unable to agree a fee with Anderlecht for Dendoncker and Krasnodar for Smolov. They bid £16m for Dendoncker when his asking fee was somewhere around the £20m mark. Leander Dendoncker to West Ham?- Hammers interested in rising Belgian star

West Ham are apparently interested in securing the services of rising Belgian star Leander Dendoncker, with manager David Moyes identifying midfield as a place requiring serious reinforcements for the Irons. Dendoncker was linked with a move to Manchester United in the summer window, but the switch didn’t materialise, with the Red Devils ending up signing Nemanja Matic from rivals Chelsea.

The 22 year old is a versatile player, capable of featuring in both midfield and defence, and reportedly has his heart set on a move out of Belgium after watching teammate Youri Tielemans transfer to French champions Monaco. [Read more…]
