West Ham’s Anderson named in BBC Team of the Week for GW 11, Rice praised by Redknapp

West Ham’s Felipe Anderson has been named in BBC pundit Garth Crooks’ Premier League Team of the Week for Round 11. The Brazilian scored a brace in the second half on Saturday against Burnley to help his side gain three vital points at the London Stadium.

Both of Anderson’s goals came after the interval- West Ham, prior to the Burnley fixture, had only scored two second half goals across ALL ten of their previous Premier League games this season.

The Brazilian could’ve even had a third but was denied by the woodwork. Not surprisingly, he was also named as the Hammers’ best player on the afternoon across various newspapers.

This is what Crooks had to say about Anderson’s performance against the Clarets.

The Brazilian has looked impressive on the ball this season, however, against Burnley he looked just as impressive in front of goal.

Anderson was the only West Ham player in Crooks’ Team of the Week. The Irons had three representatives the previous week- goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski and defenders Pablo Zabaleta and Fabian Balbuena. [Read more…]

Media Player Ratings- How did West Ham’s players fare against Burnley?

Prior to this game, West Ham had only scored two second half goals in the ten Premier League fixtures they had played this season. Here, they proceeded to score three times in the space of 25 second half minutes to secure 3 absolutely precious points and give manager Manuel Pellegrini, who had labelled this a “must-win”, some much needed breathing space.

All pundits had expected the Hammers to beat Sean Dyche’s side, and for forty five minutes till the interval, they dominated all aspects of the game except the scoreboard, where Burnley somehow found themselves level at half time despite having only 32% possession and having a passing accuracy of only 60%. West Ham v Burnley Predictions- What do the pundits say?

West Ham will be desperately looking for a win when they host Burnley at the London Stadium later this afternoon. Despite their best efforts in recent weeks, the Hammers have come up short in the points department, and will be keen to set that right this month, beginning with their clash against Sean Dyche’s men at home.

This is the beginning of a set of relatively easy fixtures for the Hammers, one they’d expect to take maximum points from. Injuries haven’t helped Manuel Pellegrini’s cause, with several key players in the treatment room, but the Chilean will be hoping that both defence and offence click together against the Clarets. However Dyche’s Burnley did not lose to Pellegrini’s Man City when he was in charge of the Citizens during the 2014/15 season.

How do the pundits in the media feel about West Ham’s chances? Let’s take a look! [Read more…]

Referee announced for West Ham Tottenham Carabao Cup clash- Spurs unbeaten this decade under him!

The referee for Wednesday evening’s EFL Cup clash between West Ham and Tottenham at the London Stadium has been announced, and it’s Stuart Attwell, who also presided over the Hammers’ 2-1 loss at home to Bournemouth in the second week of the Premier League back in August.

West Ham are winless in their last three games under Attwell- apart from the loss to the Cherries mentioned above, they were also beaten 4-1 at Anfield in February and drew 1-1 with Burnley in October last year. Attwell has refereed five Premier League games so far in this 18/19 season- West Ham were the only home team to lose. [Read more…]

Media Player Ratings- How did West Ham’s players fare against Leicester?

This game between Leicester and West Ham, for obvious reasons, took a backseat because of what happened afterwards. Feels odd to talk football after that helicopter crash, but the show must go on, and so here we are, nearly two full days after the incident, with the media player ratings for this game.

There have been plenty of games this season where West Ham have deserved more- Brighton and Spurs immediately come to mind, and so do the fixtures against Chelsea and Arsenal. However at the King Power, it would only be fair to say that Leicester did deserve at least a point after their second half efforts. West Ham were fantastic defensively and the Foxes only managed to breach that resolute claret and blue wall thanks to a unlucky deflection from Fabian Balbuena that left goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski helpless.
