Hurst Backing Hammers In Playoffs

West Ham & England legend Sir Geoff Hurst is backing his old club The Hammers to do the business in the upcoming play-off’s for promotion to the land flowing with milk and honey that is also known as The Premiership.

He said: “It was tinged with disappointment that they didn’t go up automatically when it looked like they were going to do, but they are still in with a shout, and a very strong shout.

“They have got to win three more games. They didn’t finish the season too badly, particularly at home, where results had been poor at times.

“The away record is some kind of record for the club, but they have lost a couple of games at home. But they won convincingly at home, 6-0, a couple of games ago and in terms of form coming into the play-off games, the form is pretty good.

“It’s going to be tough. They are playing Cardiff, who gave Liverpool a game in the Carling Cup final, but they are still there. They are still in with a shout with a couple of games home and a final at Wembley to fight for.”

Lets hope Sir Geoff is right and we will soon be back plying our trade in The Premiership.

Seeing as our away form is much better than our home form the first leg being at Cardiff could be an advantage, I am hoping we can go a long way to finishing the job there and not have to win at The Boleyn as we don’t seem to do too well against teams sitting backing and countering! COYI!

Boro Give Hammers A Lifeline

Watching the Middlesbrough v Southampton game I was hoping Boro could do us a favour against the much fancied Saints, especially as Boro needed a win to keep their own play off hopes alive.

After all of 46 seconds my hopes started to fade when up popped Billy Sharp with a goal to make it 1 – 0 to the St Mary’s outfit!

However being a Hammer you need to believe so I carried on watching and after a lot of half chances for both teams Boro got back in it on the stroke of half time with a cross converted by Bailey. Good times there was a glimmer of hope!

Second half I was hoping Boro would turn the screw but Southampton came out the traps wanting to put the promotion battle to bed and gave their hosts a bit of a battering for the few period of the second half.

A spot of controversy reigned a few moments later when Lallana went through on goal only to be fouled by the last man who had already been booked, I thought oh dear 10 men for Middlesbrough but unbelievably the ref kept his cards in his pocket and Lambert fired over from the free kick.

Then after being slightly battered from Southampton attacks the Tee Siders got a free kick and it was curled home beautifully by Zemmama!

So after a nervous 90 minutes watching on behalf of my team I am pleased our very slim automatic promotion hopes are still alive! So all we need now is victory over Leicester and Southampton to slip up against the already relegated Coventry City! Should be an exciting last day if we win Monday with the odds stacked in Southampton’s favour, but hey stranger things have happened! COYI!

FA Charges Morrison Over Twitter Comments

New signing Morrison has been formally charged by the FA over his remarks on Twitter.

Ravel Morrison, the 19 year old who was signed just before the transfer deadline from Manchester United is said to have made the comments on popular social networking site Twitter in response to some remarks.

Just last week the FA wrote to Morrison asking for his comments and observations on the matter. The FA have now formally charged the player. A statement on the FA website read: “West Ham United’s Ravel Morrison has been charged under FA Rule E3 for use of abusive and/or insulting words including a reference to a person’s sexual orientation.”

This incident is not the best start to Morrison’s West Ham career and as we mentioned in previous posts, he was also involved in other controversies whilst at Manchester United. Despite rating the youngster highly and saying that he was one of the finest prospects to come out of the club in recent years, United allowed Morrison to leave.

Ravel Morrison, who has yet to play a game for the irons, has until 4 p.m this Friday to respond to the FA’s charges.

Big Sam Hits Out At Tackle Hysteria

That’s right, big Sam Allardyce the hammers’ boss has hit out at the “hysteria” surrounding two-footed tackles.

West Ham is without their captain Kevin Nolan for the next three matches after he was sent off for a two footed “lunge” at Millwall’s Jack Smith last weekend. Having said that, Man City’s Vincent Kompany was also given his marching orders last month after cleanly winning the ball from Manchester United’s Nani. Allardyce therefore, is understandably unhappy with the referees’ current interpretation of such tackles.

Allardyce said:

“There’s a hysteria in the game in this country that every two-footed challenge is a red card and the referees are being put under pressure to give a red card, whether it’s a dangerous challenge or not”.

“I can’t remember a player being stretchered off from a two-footed challenge – at West Ham, Blackburn, Newcastle and Bolton, in 10 years of management, I can’t remember a two-footed challenge, going to ground, injuring a player.

“There’s a hysteria about it unfortunately, but I can’t say that it’s dangerous.

“It looks bad, but we are not on about looking bad.

“There are tackles that don’t look bad that are far worse than that, believe me.”

So there you have it. Sometimes it makes you wonder if football is still a man’s game. I believe in “going in hard” but not leg breaking hard if you know what I mean. But with all these fairies jumping up and down at the fist sight of a “lunge” and the ref being taken in by their charade, it does make you wonder, doesn’t it?

Ravel Morrison To Explain Tweet

Hammer’s new signing Ravel Morrison has been told to explain his comments made on the popular social networking site Twitter. he will be hauled up in front of West Ham’s top brass today, Thursday to explain his homophobic comments.

Morrison had Wednesday off and will be asked to explain his unsavory comments to non-football personnel, including club secretary Andrew Pincher, today.

The Football Association have written to Morrison, who has yet to play for West Ham following his £650,000 transfer from Manchester United, asking for his ‘observations’ on the matter. The player has until Monday to respond to their request.
Although Ravel Morrison has deleted the offending tweet, the player still faces an FA charge.

The FA’s guidelines on social networking, published earlier this year, read: “Any comments which are deemed improper, bring the game into disrepute, or are threatening, abusive, indecent or insulting may lead to disciplinary action.
“Comments which are personal in nature or could be construed as offensive, use foul language or contain direct or indirect threats aimed at other participants are likely to be considered improper.”
