Did Pellegrini expect too much from Wilshere?

It could be said that Manuel Pellegrini has a bit of a blind spot when it comes to Jack Wilshere and, despite being cautioned about the 26-year-old’s injury prone record, the Chilean still offered him a three-year deal. According to various media reports, the board weren’t as sold on the idea and were only in favour of giving the former Arsenal man a one year contract but that didn’t stop them backing Pellegrini and allowing the West Ham manager to seal the deal by offering 36 months instead of 12.

The Hammers had the fourth best average attendance in the league after Man Utd, Spurs and Arsenal in 2017-18. We did this feature in the 2017/18 season and are doing it again.

West Ham v Tottenham predictions- What do the pundits say?

West Ham beat Everton in their first game after the September international break and will be hoping for a similar result when they host Spurs after the October break on Saturday afternoon at the London Stadium. The Hammers are winless in their last five home games under Martin Atkinson, the ref for this clash, but did edge the Lilywhites the last time the 47 year old reffed a WHUFC-Spurs game.

Throwback- What happened when Martin Atkinson last reffed a West Ham-Spurs game?

Martin Atkinson has been appointed as the referee for this weekend’s West Ham v Tottenham clash, and we did a feature on the club’s recent record under him.

Atkinson has reffed two West Ham v Spurs Premier League games since his appointment as a top flight official, and the last one was over eight years ago! It was at Upton Park, back in September 2010, and Avram Grant’s Hammers won the fixture 1-0, moving off the bottom of the table thanks to that victory over the Lilywhites, then managed by Harry Redknapp. French striker Frederic Piquionne scored the only goal of the GW6 clash in the 29th minute, assisted by Mark Noble.

Not surprisingly, given the cut throat nature of the Premier League, both teams have undergone wholesale changes since then, with Noble the only survivor from that fixture. [Read more…]
