Gollivan: Support Is Amazing

Joint-Chairman David Gold and David Sullivan or Gollivan as I like to call them, took time out today to thank the supporters on WHUFC.COM for their amazing match day attendance.

Hammers fans continue to set the standard in the npower Championship – with an incredible 6,313 heading to Coventry City on Saturday week.

The claret and blue faithful have been impressive at the Boleyn Ground this season but their devotion has been particularly striking away from home. After helping Southampton and Brighton & Hove Albion to set record attendances, they then contributed to the biggest crowd of the campaign at Hull City last weekend.

Joint-Chairman David Sullivan hailed the support. “It’s totally amazing,” he told whufc.com. “I’ve never known such amazing away support so early in the season.

“The club is so proud of our travelling away supporters. Not only do they make a massive amount of noise, but they are impeccably well behaved. Every one of them is a true ambassador for the club.”

With more than a month to go as well until the trip to Reading on Saturday 10 December, more than 70 per cent of the 4,200 allocation has already gone.

We may not be in the Premier League at the moment but our support could be put half of the Premier League clubs to shame!

Reid Out Injured

Winston Reid could be out for several weeks after dislocating a shoulder against Bristol City last night during the 0 – 0 draw.
The New Zealand international, who is now becoming a regular fixture in Sam Allardyce’s first team fell awkwardly after defending a cross in the first few minutes of the game.

After receiving some treatment on the pitch he was substituted and left the field of play holding his left arm.

Sam Allardyce confirmed the bad news. “He’s been to hospital and the dislocated shoulder has been put back into place,” he said – before revealing that he would be using the forthcoming two-week international break to find fresh blood.

“It will be another search in the loan market very, very quickly to see if we can find a quality player who will help us with the numbers at the moment.”

Lets hope he gets back playing soon as I thought he was starting to build a good understanding and partnership with James Tompkins.

Good News, Sam Rules Out Diouf

Good news today, Sam Allardyce has revealed that he will not be signing El Hadji Diouf or Spit The Dog as he is known in some corners.

The West Ham manager, who came under heavy fire this week for considering signing a player who spat at West Ham supporters back in 2002 whilst a Liverpool player.

Allardyce said: “Everyone seems to be aware that we’ve had El Hadji Diouf training with us but I’ve decided today not to offer him a short-term contract. We’ve had a good look at him over the past few days but because he’s had no real football for some time his conditioning wasn’t good.

“With that in mind – and the possibility that some of our injured players will be hopefully have recovered in the not too distant future – we won’t be looking at a deal.

“Obviously I had to bear in mind the situation at the club with the fans. It was sensible to take everything into consideration and the most important thing is we are going pretty well at the moment and there shouldn’t be any distractions.”

Great news in my opinion, like we need another troubled player who would probably end up spitting at his own supporters if he got booed!

Hammers On A High After Beating Brighton

Nolan Celebrates Netting WinnerWest Ham are on a high after beating Brighton 1 – 0 at their new stadium. Brighton had been in imperious form in their new digs so it was an excellent result to turn them over although it was a very hard fought victory.

Sam Allardyce paid tribute to the defensive resilience of his West Ham United after a dogged display was enough to earn all three points.

Kevin Nolan’s solitary strike on 17 minutes settled the contest. West Ham though were missing the creativity of David Bentley, Matt Taylor and Henri Lansbury to injury and had to give away much in terms of possession. The likes of the recalled Mark Noble and Jack Collison to work overtime in midfield.

“It was an outstanding victory for us at a very difficult place to play,” Big Sam said. “They have a great crowd and atmosphere, so it is a great three points from us. Automatic promotion is generally determined on how many one-nil wins you can get and it is the same when you are trying to get in the higher end of the Premier League.

“You want to be fluent, score and be open like we have been in the previous games of course – we have scored four goals in four different games remember – but today we were a solid, hard-working unit of lads determined to try and bounce back from the disappointment at Southampton.”

Another good result, especially as we were missing some good players due to injury for this game. This is a game we would definitely have lost under previous managers in my opinion.

On another note it’s nice to see Nolan getting on the score sheet, he scored plenty for Newcastle in their promotion winning season so let’s hope he can do the same for us.

West Ham To Tender Again

As you will no doubt have seen and read this week, the Government has decided to start a new process to determine the future of the Olympic Stadium after it became bogged down in legal wrangling.

WHUFC: Our unanimously supported proposal which earned us preferred bidder status back in February was for a multi-use, multi-sport stadium that provided a real home for football and athletics.

It would have been open in 2014/15, and it would have been a destination for national sport and certainly a fitting stage for the 2017 World Athletic Championships.

We will tender again with the same energy, vision and determination.

We welcome the positive words from the Sports Minister and the Mayor of London. It is great to see a collective determination for the Olympic Stadium to live up to the promises rightly made by Lord Coe and his team when the Games were won back in 2005.

If we are allowed, we will deliver the right legacy for the East End and the wider community, ensuring that the vibrant Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park with its thousands of new jobs and homes is well served.

It’s a shame after all the back and forth that we are having to start all over. Lets hope Mr. Levy can keep his toys in his pram if we win it again and not use every means possible to keep us out of it! But it may be a good thing, I was never a fan of sitting  5 miles from the pitch so maybe our new bid can include retractable seating?!
