Referee for Burnley v West Ham game announced- Will ref Hammers for the first ever time

The referee for West Ham’s league clash away at Burnley on Sunday afternoon has been announced, and it is David Coote, who was officially promoted to the Premier League’s list of referees this season.

Coote has been in charge of only five top flight PL fixtures so far, and is yet to referee a competitive game involving West Ham.

Coote, whose father played cricket for Nottinghamshire, has however already refereed a Premier League game involving Burnley. That was the Clarets’ 4-2 loss away at fellow strugglers Fulham in GW3. Prior to that fixture, Burnley had been unbeaten in five games with Coote in charge.

Premier League games refereed by David Coote so far

Newcastle 0-1 West Brom (April 2018)
Fulham 4-2 Burnley (August 2018)
Leicester 3-1 Huddersfield (September 2018)
Everton 3-1 Brighton (November 2018)
Fulham 1-1 Leicester (December 2018)

As you can see above, the away side has won only once in those five games.

In all of Burnley’s games involving Coote, the Clarets have scored at least two goals. They’ve scored three four times.

West Ham have already had their best ever month in Premier League history, with the fifteen points they’ve picked up in December a record for the club in the top flight. They’ll be looking to create a new record against Sean Dyche’s Burnley, who are currently third from bottom in the league and have the joint worst home defensive record in the PL this season.

The Clarets have only picked up 7 points from a possible 27 at Turf Moor and have shipped in 20 goals at home. They come into this game on the back of a 5-1 loss to Everton on Boxing Day. The Hammers beat them 4-2 at the London Stadium in November and will be looking to do a league double over Sean Dyche’s side this weekend.
