Diego Demme West Ham | Leipzig star attracts interest from Hammers

According to reports in the papers today, West Ham are interested in RB Leipzig midfielder Diego Demme. The Hammers are short on midfield cover and played a midfield trio of Pedro Obiang, Robert Snodgrass and Declan Rice against Burnley with the likes of Carlos Sanchez and Hack Wilshere and Mark Noble suspended.

The trio did their job against the Clarets, especially Rice, who has excelled in his defensive role and is often the only member of the Hammers midfield to play the full 90. Rice’s performance impressed Jamie Redknapp, who said he wouldn’t be surprised if Man City came calling for the youngster.

Demme appears to play a similar role at Leipzig, and has started all ten of RBL’s BuLi games this season. Leipzig beat Hertha over the weekend, a game that featured an excellent goal from Matheus Cunha, and are currently fourth in the table behind Dortmund, Monchengladbach and Bayern. If Bayern slip up in the Klassieker this weekend, Leipzig could leapfrog them in the league standings.

West Ham are not the only English club in the race for Demme, with fellow Premier League outfit Watford also said to be interested in his services.

Manuel Pellegrini is also said to be mulling a loan move for Ruben Loftus-Cheek in January, but that looks unlikely o to materalise given Sarri’s reluctance to send the 22 year old to the London Stadium.
