West Ham v Chelsea predictions- What do the pundits say?

West Ham defied the odds by handing Everton their first league defeat of the season last weekend. This weekend they’re up against Chelsea- Maurizio Sarri’s men are one of only two teams in the league with a 100% record, the other being Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool. The Blues have however won only one of their last four games against the Hammers in all competitions and were beaten in the corresponding fixture at the London Stadium last season.

What do the pundits think about West Ham’s chances at the London Stadium this weekend?

Mark Lawrenson: Lawro, for the record, had tipped West Ham to beat Wolves in Round 4, and had also backed Everton to get the better of the Hammers in Round 5. His celebrity opponents, Greg James and Mark Walhberg, however got their predictions spot on.

This week, Lawro has gone for a 2-1 win to the Hammers, and says he thinks “something will click for them” against the Blues.

His celebrity opponent this weekend, Dame Jessica-Ennis Hill, has predicted a 2-0 win for Chelsea– three points and a clean sheet for the visitors.

Paul Merson: Merson reckons West Ham will not be able to cope with Eden Hazard. He says they’ll have “their spells” in the game, but Chelsea will be too strong for them, and will emerge 3-1 winners.

Michael Owen: Owen reckons this will be a “cracking derby”, with West Ham giving Chelsea a real run for their money. Expects both teams to score, but Chelsea to win.

Summary of predictions for West Ham v Chelsea (September 23)

Lawro: West ham 2-1 Chelsea
Ennis-Hill: West Ham 0-2 Chelsea
