Lanzini out of World Cup after suffering knee injury in training

West Ham’s Manuel Lanzini has been ruled out of the World Cup after rupturing his knee ligaments. The ACL injury was picked up in training, just six days before Argentina begin their World Cup campaign.

The 2018 World Cup would’ve been Lanzini’s first, and this injury also puts him in serious doubt for the start of the new Premier League season.

Argentina have not announced a replacement yet- there doesn’t appear to be a like-for-like replacement in Sampaoli’s 23. Mauro Icardi’s name will always get taken, but the Inter striker doesn’t play the same role as Lanzini and is unlikely to be called up
