West Ham defender Winston Reid has withdrawn from the New Zealand squad following his calf injury prior to the club’s 3-2 loss to Southampton. All Whites skipper Reid was stretchered off after picking up the injury in the warm-up at St.Mary’s. He was originally named in West Ham’s starting eleven but had to be replaced by Jose Fonte.
Reid will therefore miss both of New Zealand’s World Cup qualifiers against the Solomon Islands. Slaven Bilic has also said that he will play no part in the upcoming fixture against Newcastle. A likely return for the 29 year old is said to be the home fixture against newly promoted Huddersfield Town (September 11)
Reid recently inked a six year contract extension that will keep him at the London Stadium till 2023.
