The Hammers have given up the ghost of trying to bring Italian hitman Fabio Quagliarella to Upton Park, preferring to focus instead on another Serie A forward in the shape of Udinese’s Czech star Matej Vydra.
As we said on Friday about the Juventus striker: The Italian club have completed deals for both Fernando Llorente from Athletic Bilbao and Man City’s Carlos Tevez so 30 year-old Fabio Quagliarella could be surplus to requirements.
According to The Daily Mail, the Hammers’ reasons for not pursuing the transfer of Fabio Quagliarella have to do with his hefty price tag of €11 million euros and the fact that the striker is 30 years of age.
In a change of tack, West Ham United have decided to pursue Udinese’s Matej Vydra as he is both younger and cheaper than his Juventus counterpart.
Ex Chelsea coach and player Gianfranco Zola, who is now in charge at Watford, had the 21 year-old Czech on loan last year, who netted an impressive 22 goals from 44 games.
The Italian club have reportedly put a 9million price tag on the Czech international’s head who signed for them in 2010 from Banik Ostrava for a modest 4million euros. Matej Vydra has only played 3 games for Udinese, who was either sidelined due to a knee injury or loaned out.
In my opinion, if West Ham go for this guy, then it makes more sense over the more expensive and older Quagliarella. Vydra is a younger guy, cheaper and had a great season at the Hornets. Do I hear sold to West Ham?
