Hammers keen on Fabio Quagliarella to partner Carroll up front

In the hunt for a front man to team up with Andy Carroll, it looks like the Hammers have enquired about Fabio Quagliarella from Italian Serie A giants Juventus.

Although the club shelled out £15million for Carroll after a year long loan spell from Liverpool, Allardyce feels he needs more strike power on which to build a successful team after a decent first season back in top flight football.

West Ham United are a bit thin on the ground in terms of true strikers and after Carlton Cole left the club, Maiga and Vaz Te have been used in more supporting roles rather than out and out front runners.

Although the Hammers have been linked with another forward from Serie A, namely Matej Vydra from Udinese, Sky Italia informs us that the East End club’s attention have been drawn to Quagliarella from Juve.

The Italian club have completed deals for both Fernando Llorente from Athletic Bilbao and Man City’s Carlos Tevez so 30 year-old Fabio Quagliarella could be surplus to requirements.

It is believed that Juve boss Antonio Conte would be ready to let one of his 6 front men leave the side this summer with the Hammers hoping to persuade Quagliarella to make the trip across the border to London’s east end.

The Hammers may face stiff competition from Norwich as they also have the player in their cross hairs but interest could die off if they are able to sign striker Gary Hooper from Celtic.

West Ham may have to stump up more than £10million if they are serious about Fabio Quagliarella after reports suggest that Juventus turned down that figure from Norwich City some weeks back.

In case you haven’t seen his potential, here’s a video of Quagliarella scoring a peach of a goal for Italy against Slovakia
