A great crowd of 34,966 watched West Ham get their season underway with a 3-0 win over Andorran minnows Lusitanos. Bilic got a great reception from the crowd, but he was not in charge for this game, watching from the stands, with academy boss Terry Westley taking the reins.
The goals took a while to come- Westley had a frustrating wait till 40 minutes to watch the first go in courtesy Senegalese forward Diafra Sakho, who again got on the scoresheet before the interval. Zarate had a hand in the first, with Amalfitano setting up the second.
Great day for young Reece Oxford, who became West Ham’s youngest player at the age of 16 years and 198 days.
Skipper Tomkins got the third just before the hour mark.
