The Grant Holt transfer saga is still rumbling on, with news today that West Ham have increased their bid to £5.5million as they look to sign wantaway Norwich hit man.
The 31-year-old looks desperate to quit Carrow Road for pastures new despite the arrival of a new man at the helm in Chris Hughton.
Manager Sam Allardyce has already seen a bid of £3.5m rejected for Holt, who scored an impressive 17 goals in his début season in the top flight.
I am not sure what Allardyce and co see in this guy to keep going back with improved offers, but £5.5million seems a lot of money for someone who will have a limited shelf life and no sell on value. Should we really be pushing the boat out and spending more than a quarter of our rumoured £20million transfer kitty on this guy?
If he signs I will support him and if he bangs in 20 goals and helps us into the top 10 then I am sure it will seem like a good gamble, but what if it goes south and we have another Benni McCarthy or John Carew?
Personally I would love to see the money used to sign Wilfred Zaha who could be a real star in the making. Crystal Palace have the knack of producing some great young talent of late and I see him as a very exciting addition to our squad who would add a new dimension to our forward line.
What do you think? Is Holt worth chasing for this kind of cash or am I being overly sceptical?
