West Ham’s ten-game unbeaten run in the Conference League was halted by KAA Gent, who held David Moyes’ side to a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their UECL quarterfinal at the Ghelamco Arena.
The Hammers took the lead through Danny Ings on the stroke of half time, only for Hugo Cuypers to equalise for the hosts before the hour mark.
The winner of this UECL quarter-final will take on the winner of the Anderlecht-AZ one in the semis. RSCA beat AZ 2-0 in their first leg tie, which means an all-Belgian semi-final remains a possibility.
The other two UECL last eight ties saw Fiorentina beat Lech Poznan 4-1 away from home and Nice draw 2-2 with Swiss side Basel.
West Ham’s next assignment is a tough one against league leaders Arsenal this weekend.
