Man City v West Ham Predictions- What do the pundits think of our chances at the Etihad?

Manuel Pellegrini will be hoping for a maiden win as manager over Pep Guardiola when West Ham travel to the Etihad Stadium to take on Manchester City.

The Hammers will be hoping that City’s congested fixture list- they played 120 minutes on Sunday against Chelsea in the EFL Cup final, plays into their hands. The defending champions will also be without key players like Aymeric Laporte and Fernandinho, who picked up knocks at Wembley and join Gabriel Jesus and John Stones in the treatment room.

The referee for this game is Stuart Attwell, under whom the Hammers are on a three game losing streak. He was the man with the whistle when they lost 3-1 to Spurs (EFL Cup) and 2-1 to Bournemouth (GW 2 in August)

By comparison, City have NEVER lost a Premier League under Attwell. Their record under him in the league reads P7- W6, D1

What do the pundits make of West Ham’s chances at the Etihad? Let’s take a look.

Mark Lawrenson: Lawro notes City’s growing injury list, but also adds that “they have got enough good players on form to hurt the Hammers”. Has predicted a 3-1 win to Pep Guardiola’s side.

Paul Merson: Merson has gone for a 3-0 win to City, saying that he “can’t see West Ham stopping them from scoring in the first half”. However says that if the game gets dragged on without scoring, City aren’t the same team.

Kevin Kilbane: Kilbane, like others, can’t see beyond a City win. Notes that they’ve won 13 out of 14 at home this season, and have won the last five in the league against the Hammers. Also notes that City have scored 2 or more goals in each of their their last fifteen games at home. Has gone for City to win, and at over 2.5 goals
