Referee announced for Watford game- West Ham have lost last four under him!

West Ham will be looking to claim their fifth win on the bounce when they host Watford this weekend. To win five in a row, the Hammers will have to reverse a losing trend under the referee for this game- Lee Mason, who will be in charge of this fixture at the London Stadium.

West Ham have lost their last four games with him in the middle- two at home and two on the road.

Arsenal 4-1 West Ham (22 April 2018)- 2017/18 Premier League season
West Ham 0-3 Burnley (10 March, 2018)- 2017/18 Premier League season
West Ham 2-3 Newcastle (23 Dec, 2017)- 2017/18 Premier League season
Southampton 3-2 West Ham (19 August, 2017)- 2017/18 Premier League season

In all four of these games, the opposition scored three or more goals.

Lee Mason

For the Hammers’ last league win under Mason, one has to go all the way back to December 2016, when they edged Wolves 1-0.

Interestingly enough, Watford’s last game with Mason as the ref was also a victory over Wolves, which came in Round 9 of the current league season. He was also the man with the whistle when they played Tottenham in the League Cup in September- that fixture went to penalties, with Spurs prevailing 6-4 in the shootout.

Watford come into this game on the back of a 3-2 win over Cardiff City, a fixture that produced some fantastic individual goals, including one from the boot of Domingos Quina, who moved to Vicarage Road from the London Stadium earlier this summer.

The Hornets are one spot below the Hammers in the league standings, level on points but below them on goal difference. Recent Premier League clashes between the two sides have been competitive- the last five meetings have seen West Ham win twice, Watford emerge victorious on two occasions, and one ending in a draw. However the winner on all four occasions won by EXACTLY two goals!
