First Indian Woman Footballer in England- West Ham’s New Goalkeeper Aditi Chauhan

New West Ham signing Aditi Chauhan has created history in her native India by becoming the first Indian woman footballer to play in England. West Ham Ladies play in the third tier (Premier League Southern Division) and Chauhan made her debut in the 5-0 loss to Coventry City on the opening day of the season.

India is a cricket-mad nation, although football and the Premier League have been slowly growing in popularity in the South Asian country. There is however NO current professional league for women footballers in India, so for Chauhan to make it so far, is a major achievement.

The West Ham Ladies account also tweeted in Hindi (India’s native language)
