Gold confirms Jenkinson interest- West Ham to fight it out with Sunderland for defender

Days after Sunderland had agreed a season long loan deal with Arsenal for Carl Jenkinson, West Ham have jumped into the fray, with chairman David Gold confirming to the BBC that they are interested in re-signing the 23 year old.

Relevant quotes from Gold regarding Jenkinson in today’s BBC interview below. Jenks is currently on duty with the England U21 team at the European Championships in the Czech Republic. England lost their opener to Portugal U21 last night, leaving them with some real work to do in their upcoming games.

We know we need a right-back and will work tirelessly to bring in Carl. If that does not work out, we have other irons in the fire”

“We said to Slaven ‘get your priority list and let’s see what we can do. We have a track record of working with our managers.”

This is likely to favour us because Jenkinson is expected to choose us ahead of Sunderland, so long as the wages and loan fee are matched. He’d prefer to stay in London instead of going to the North East.

Sunderland are in desperate need of some full back cover after releasing Reveillere, so expect them to fight tooth and nail, but this one should be ours if we play our cards wisely.

Jenks made 33 appearances for West Ham in the 2014/15 season- 30 as a starter and 3 as a sub.
