Ex Hammer Jermaine Defoe has expressed his love affair with the east end club ahead of the looming winter transfer window.
The player says he regrets leaving the club the way he did by slapping in a transfer request just hours after West Ham were relegated. Despite Defoe’s actions not going down too well with the fans, the club may be willing to forgive and forget.

Jermaine Defoe could be available to the Hammers in January
Defoe slapped in a transfer request immediately after the club’s relegation from the Premier League in 2002-03 and has seemingly never been forgiven by the Hammers’ fans.
However, with the Hammers’ not firing on all cylinders along with six blanks from 10 Premier League games this season, the east end club are hardly in a position to hold grudges if the player comes on the market in January.
Jermaine Defoe has been forced down the pecking order at White Hart Lane by the arrivals of ex Valencia hitman Roberto Soldado, Erik Lamela and Christian Eriksen with the ex Hammer in a bid to make amends with Hammers fans for his faux pas in what looks like a bid to secure a return to Upton Park.
Speaking to ITV4’s Sport life Stories, Jermaine Defoe noted: “It was a massive mistake. I didn’t really want to do it.”
“We’re talking about leaving the club I was in love with at the time because I came through the youth system with my friends, the fans loved me there. They were brilliant – every game they sang my name.”
Despite only having played 163 minutes of top flight football this season, the 31 year old has demonstrated his ability to still compete at the highest level by netting 8 goals from 13 appearances in all competitions, including the six he bagged in the Europa League.
With the hammers suffering a goal drought and another setback with Andy Carroll, would the fans welcome Defoe back down at Upton Park? What do you think?

Defoe you are welcome back anytime!! We should never have crucified you in the first place. I feel for you now you have hit rock bottom. I mean Tottenham? you must of been desperate for somewhere to play 🙂
I hope he comes back, he still knows where the goal is, will fit in perfectly, if we play two up front
let bygones be bygones. If Defoe comes back and scores goals for us, and gets us out of the sh1t we are in. He will be a hero once again!!!
see the latest on AC is Xmas, l am really glad that BFS spent the £15m wisely!!!!!!!!!!!!!
