You’ve heard it from the captain. Kevin Nolan has told his fellow Hammers that there is no cause for alarm despite the poor start to the season by the east London club.
Sometimes Nolan reminds me of a World War II Spitfire pilot, with his bryl-creamed hair, side parting and tally ho team talks. What Nolan seems to forget though is that the front end of his Spitfire is not firing on all cylinders! However, we must admire his team spirit, as this is what the club needs.
The Hammers finished a respectable 10th last season but find themselves in 17th position in the league table. With the move to the Olympic Stadium round the corner, now is not the time to fall short at this stage of the campaign.
Without big Andy Carroll, West Ham has only found the net a dismal 5 times – something needs to be done.
“We can’t afford to panic,” midfielder Nolan told West Ham’s website.
“We understand the position we’re in. I’ve been in this type of position at this stage of the season before.
“At the minute, things are just not falling for us and refereeing decisions are absolutely killing us.
“Tottenham are in a great run of form but it’s a local derby and we’re going to go there with nothing to lose and have a good go at them.
“Hopefully it’ll be the start of the little run that we need.”
Nolan is confident the Hammers can create more chances and start converting them. If West ham can get a decent run, it will certainly be a big morale boost for the east London side.
The irons definitely need to start sticking the ball in the back of the net for sure!
