Ricardo Vaz Te has this morning handed in a transfer request at West Ham United.
Vaz Te has been linked with a move away from the club for a while now, with the club signing Andy Carroll and also strengthening the wide positions with Stewart Downing, Vaz Te’s first team opportunities looked limited.
Not content with just handing in a transfer request, Vaz Te has issued a statement which he released to SkySports:
In my 10 years as a professional football player I have never submitted a transfer request nor issued a statement, however, I am frustrated at West Ham United Football Club.
Last season I was asked to change positions for the benefit of the team even though I had just scored 24 goals.
The main objective was to finish top 10 in the Premier League and I followed my instructions to the best of my ability as the club always comes first. As a result even though I was injured for three months no other player made more assists than me and no other winger scored more goals than me.
In addition, since I joined this football club on 31st January 2012 no other player has scored more goals than me in all official competitions to date.
Statistics are evident to all, despite this, it has been made obvious to myself and my representatives that I am not in the manager’s plans.
Therefore it is with a heavy heart that I submit a transfer request and look to join a club where my approach to the game will be appreciated.
Well is it just me or is Mr. Vaz Te seriously bigging himself up over the rest of the team?
Losing Vaz Te will hopefully free up some funds to sign another player of higher quality.
Thanks for the play-off final goal Ricardo, but it’s time you and West Ham move on.
Vaz Te’s final act for the club looks like being that peach of a free kick in the League Cup game against Cheltenham, which was probably a nice way to sign off.
Good luck Vaz not sure why it never worked out for you last year reckon that injury hampered you just as you were hitting some form.
Fair play to him. He was better suited to playing on the left, like he did in the championship, yet last season Allardyce couldn’t bear to try getting them to swap wings or even god forbid drop Jarvis. Last season Jarvis scored 2 goals and got no assists. Vaz Te scored 3 goals and got a couple of assists in less games.
good on him cant blame him and hopefully help the club with a new striker
I think it’s quite refreshing tbh. He’s essentially saying “Look, I know I can score goals when I play a certain way but I’m obviously no longer suited to this team as things have changed. I’m not getting game time so I’d rather go play somewhere where I fit in than sit on the bench.” Also, handing in a transfer request means he’ll get no payoff. That tells me he cares more about playing than money. I wish him all the luck in the world.
