Morrison gets nod from Allardyce to face Cheltenham

Ex Manchester United star Ravel Morrison will get a start against Cheltenham Town in the League Cup tomorrow confirms Hammers’ manager Sam Allardyce.

Morrison joined West Ham last year from the Old Trafford outfit but spent most of the season loaned out to Birmingham City.

Speaking to Press Association Sport, Allardyce said:

“Ravel is an emerging talent and we’ve very pleased with what he did in pre-season for us. He is an exceptional talent who we hope we can nurture into the fray. Some people might say sticking a player on at that late stage might be risky but we’ve got to do it at some stage,”

“We can see the talent and the only way to do it is to get him in the first team and get some minutes on the board. He’ll play against Cheltenham and we’ll see how he does and keep an eye on him.

“He’s had a good season at Birmingham and he’s brought that back with him in pre-season and it’s great to see that talent is emerging.”

This may be the chance for the 20 year old to put a few demons behind him as he has captain Kevin Nolan to lean on. We discussed how Nolan could help out Morrison and take him under his wing in an older post.

Nolan spoke to WHUFC about the lad:

“The lad has got ability.
It was all the off-field stuff and his mental attitude to the game and I think he has come back with a renewed approach.
Hopefully now this will be the start of what is going to be a fantastic career for him, because as you can see he has great ability and can score goals too.”

West Ham United needs to see what the hopeful young star can do and will get his chance on Tuesday against Cheltenham. It should be an exciting game and we look forward to seeing Morrison do his thing.

About Stevo

Stevo can remember going to games with his Dad and seeing the likes of Clyde Best of all people. He also has a few mates who have “done” complete seasons too – and that was when the Irons were in division one. That’s every home and away game – unbelievable! Stevo plans to do this himself next season!
