If the Hammers are able to offload some of their players and free up their wage bill, the club will make a bid for Oscar Cardozo of Lisbon club, Benfica, reports daily newspaper The Sun.
30 year old Cardozo is said to be unsettled at the Portuguese side and is contemplating a move. Allardyce needs a proven striker up front to partner Andy Carroll and sees Oscar Cardozo as an ideal candidate.
However, the irons will first have to shift some of the current squad to be able to afford the Paraguayan’s wages.
Cardozo has made it clear he wants to move on and has sparked interest from the likes of Fenerbahce, Spartak Moscow and even Premiership new boys, Cardiff City.
Cardozo spoke to Portuguese website A Bola:
“I thank the fans for always being with me.
“But, after everything that has happened, it will be very hard to find motivation to continue. My head is far away from Benfica.”
Even ex Benfica star José Augusto said that Cardozo was worth 20 goals a season, something that could come in handy down at Upton Park.
Andy Carroll is still out injured leaving Modibo Maiga as the club’s only fit striker at the moment.
To fund any possible Oscar Cardozo deal Ricardo Vaz Te or even Maiga himself could be shown the door at the east London club.
I had the chance to see Oscar Cardozo in action last season in the Europa League. He’s still quick and can get stuck in, which is what the Hammers need up front to partner Carroll.
