Preview: West Ham United v Cardiff

The wait is finally over, after weeks of anxiously waiting for the new Premier League season, it’s finally here!

West Ham United today welcome Premier League new boys Cardiff City for the the season opener at The Boleyn Ground.

This will be Cardiff City’s first ever Premier League match, and they will be looking to try and exact some revenge over West Ham as they were the team to beat them in the semi-finals of the Championship play-offs back in 2012 when The Hammer’s spanked them 5-0 over the two legs.

Stewart Downing

West Ham will be looking for their new signings to hit the ground running today, including Andy Carroll who is still battling back from injury, as well as recent acquisition Stewart Downing and the other new boy likely to start Razvan Rat.

Last season West Ham were excellent at home and Big Sam will want to turn Upton Park into a fortress this season, with today being a good day to put a marker down for future visiting teams.

West Ham came out of the blocks firing last season and amassed a healthy amount of points at the beginning of the season which made Premier League survival easier with the club never dragged into a relegation scrap last season.

If Andy Carroll is not fit then I expect to see Modibo Maiga leading the line, and with Matt Jarvis and Stewart Downing pinging in crosses all afternoon it will be interesting to see how West Ham’s front three will gel.

I hope Ravel Morrison get’s a run out as well considering the fine form he has been in for us in pre-season.

Iron Bobby’s Prediction: 2-0
