Matt Jarvis shines in Hammers defeat of Hamburg

After the Hammers defeat by Mainz at the weekend, things went the other way for the East London club in a terrific victory over Hamburg last night in Flensburg as part of their pre-season tour.

West Ham United were thrashed at the weekend 4-1 by Mainz in the opening match of their tour of Germany but have bounced back with a nice win over Hamburg.

One of the highlights of the show was the West Ham’s Matt Jarvis who really stood out. He played a great part in the Hammers’ win over the Bundesliga outfit as the Premier League side came away with a 3-1 scoreline.

Alou Diarra and James ‘Tonks’ Tomkins both headed goals in during the first half from corners taken by a superb Matt Jarvis. That gave the Hammers a 2 nil lead after just 30 minutes.

There was more to come from Sam Allardyce’s men not before Hamburg put one in the net and halved the scoreline making it 2-1 courtesy of Heiko Westermann in the 43rd minute.

Sam’s men, not to be outdone, crashed home a penalty via Ravel Morrison just before the half time whistle after man of the match in our opinion, Matt Jarvis, was adjudged to have been brought down.

After the weekend’s horror show, Tuesday night’s game was a breath of fresh air. Pre-season matches do count in my opinion and it’s a good indication of what to expect when the season gets under way. COYI!

About Stevo

Stevo can remember going to games with his Dad and seeing the likes of Clyde Best of all people. He also has a few mates who have “done” complete seasons too – and that was when the Irons were in division one. That’s every home and away game – unbelievable! Stevo plans to do this himself next season!

  1. You’re right – he’s come on in leaps and bounds and has turned into a key player. West Ham have to build on this type of player.

  2. The bloke is becoming invaluable to the team. He creates so much up front – I rate the fella VERY highly. Looking forward to him ripping full backs apart this season.

Would be great to get similar service from the right flank too. Downing wasn’t the right solution in this position IMO.
