West Ham Friday Roundup

West Ham United have had a busy time in the transfer market this week and the rumour mill is starting to go into overdrive as silly season starts to kick off.

So let’s start with the big news which we all wanted to hear, and that is the permanent signing of Andy Carroll from Liverpool for a fee in the region of £15m. This is fantastic news for West Ham and really puts down a marker of our intent to consolidate in the Premier League and push higher up the table than last seasons 10th place finish.

The most unlikely story coming out regarding Carroll was the bizarre story run by the Daily Star suggesting Arsenal sought to hijack the deal and sign the big number 9 for themselves!

New 2013 Kit

West Ham launched their new retro inspired Adidas kit yesterday with mixed reaction from fans, some really love it and already have their debit cards out punching in their pre-order on the whufc.com website, while others are yet to be convinced and may be sporting the 2012 model for next season!

I myself actually quite like it, you can’t beat a bit of retro in my opinion and I will be sporting it as soon as I can get my claret and blue mits on one!

Hammers sign Danny Whitehead

Danny who I hear you cry? Well I don’t profess to know much about the young man either but after doing some research I found out that he is a 19-year-old attacking midfield player who we have signed from Stockport County for an undisclosed fee.

According to manager Sam Allardyce he was recommended to us by former Stockport manager Didi Hamann. Speaking to WHUFC.com Allardyce said:

He was recommend by Didi Hamann – who managed Stockport – as he felt he was an emerging talent that needed nurturing. I asked their current manager Ian Bogie about his talents and he allowed us to take a look at him last season and like every young player he’s got talent.

He’s very capable of handling the ball and he’s able to create with his passing. He’s very slight, which we’ll work on, but the question is can we create that potential into a Premier League player? It is something we’ll find out over the coming years through our Academy system and we’ll see if he can join the long list of players that have come through.

Rory Delap

As we have just signed Andy Carroll and the fact Rory Delap is available on a free transfer, it didn’t take long for someone to suggest we are after the midfield player to launch balls into the box from his now famous throw in! Can’t see any legs in this one personally.

2013/2014 Premier League Fixtures

The new fixtures for the upcoming Premier League season were released this week, and the opening fixtures have been quite kind to West Ham with the club avoiding the top four in their first six encounters.

West Ham United will kick off the season against new boys Cardiff City at The Boleyn Ground on Saturday August 17th.

So it’s been a busy week for a West Ham fan and I am very pleased with the business the club has been doing so far. It’s also encouraging how early the business is being done with the club already having signed a new goalkeeper in Adrian, a seasoned international captain at left back in the form of Razvan Rat, Andy Carroll making his move permanent and a few for the future in the form of former Arsenal youngster Jordan Brown and Danny Whitehead from Stockport County.

Hopefully there will be a few more quality signings left in this transfer window for us and I am really optimistic about the new season! COYI!
