Following up from Iron Bobby’s post yesterday with the subtle title of West Ham cane Reading to finish on a high, I thought I’d chip in and say my piece.
It was a great result for the Hammers, and to finish in 10th position is an achievement especially when you look back at what type of season we had with some tough games that seem to come in two’s and three’s.
We’ve had our share of injuries too, and that didn’t help the Hammers’ quest for Premiership survival. Big Sam deserves his new contract and the club should thank him for sticking to his guns.
I know he does some things that we don’t even understand, but the proof is in the pudding and the Irons have not only survived a torrential year in top flight football, but Big Sam has steered the vessel and come in 10th!
An up and down year I am sure you will all agree and to beat Reading like that was magic. Hammers captain Kevin Nolan found the net on no less than 3 occasions and Vaz Té brought up the rear.
It was a great game and at 2 goals apiece Reading were looking for victory, but it wasn’t going to happen, not on Nolan’s watch!. It was Nolan who made it 3-2 and then sunk the Reading team by making it 4-2 and his third.
All credit to the captain, he deserves a medal. He is inspiring to the team and Sunday’s game proved that. So what’s going to happen now? Will Andy Carroll sign for the Hammers on a permanent deal? Will Chelsea’s lost soul Michael Essien make the trip back from Spain and join the East Londoners or will he be tempted to join the Mourinho revolution?
The season may be over but there’s still lots going on and Big Sam will in no doubt be crafting the Hammers side for next season already.
