It was a great win for West Ham over a high-flying WBA at the weekend with a few superb goals thrown in just for good measure.
West Ham are now on 36-points so just shy of the magic 40-point mark which is so often the target for Premier League survival.
The 3-points picked up against WBA came at just the right time as a loss would have seen West Ham hovering just 3-points above the drop zone but this is now a 6-point cushion, we also really needed a result as in the next 5 games West Ham will be playing Liverpool away, Manchester United at home and Manchester City away so the points were precious at this point of the season.
Andy Carroll
The big striker filled his boots against WBA at the weekend scoring two goals with the second being an absolute top drawer volley leaving manager Sam Allardyce purring like a persian.
Allardyce came out after the game expressing his desire to keep Carroll at West Ham next season but admitted there is still a lot to be done for him to be plying his trade at The Boleyn next season.
Carroll himself hopes his form at West Ham will make Roy Hodgson sit up and take notice and made it clear he wants to represent his country at every available opportunity, if he keeps playing like that then a recall will be imminent.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has also hinted at a possible lifeline with Liverpool should a deal not be struck after admitting they are monitoring the situation closely and have had scouts at the majority of the games he has played.
Sam Allardyce’ Contract
Manager Sam Allardyce, who is out of contract in the summer has told SkySports that he will look to sign a new deal once West Ham hit 38-points to put paid to talk of his future being away from West Ham:
I want us to get safe and then if the contract’s already there and ready to sign, I’ll sign it, move on and get ready for next season.
I’m not so sure we have to wait until we’re mathematically safe. I think if we get to 38 points both parties would say that’s going to be enough this season.
Bony transfer
Wilfried Bony is being touted all over the media as a possible summer signing for West Ham, not sure how much of this is true especially as we are still outside the transfer window and concentrating on Premier League survival.
However, the player himself is making no secret of his desire to move to England and does indeed look a real handful with a real goal scoring threat to boot so if a deal did come off then it would be some good business for West Ham.
George McCartney injury
George McCartney, who was ironically making his return from injury as a second half substitute at weekend, looks set to miss the rest of the season with injury having hobble off with the same knee ligament issue that has plagued him this season.
Lets hope he can recover and be raring to go next season.
Liverpool game
West Ham travel to Liverpool this weekend for an early Sunday afternoon kick off, Carroll will not be allowed to play against his parent club so our goal threat is somewhat diminished.
Any points picked up from Liverpool or either of the Manchester teams will be an added bonus as we look to secure our place in the big time for next season.
